Parker Jr. called the meeting to order at 9:30 A.M., and on call of the roll those members present were Mayor Raymond J. Parker Jr., Personnel and Safety Director Harold Lakeman, and Sewage Collection Office Director Jim Matra. Also present were: Building Commissioner Bill Gavin~ City Engineer Bob Miller, Street Commissioner George Trembly, City Attorney Mike Gillenwater, Sewage Office Manager Bob Goldman, Maintenance Foreman Mike Ewton, Police Chief Rick Elliott, Assistant Police Chief Charles Elder, Fire Chief Jerry Dooley, Animal Shelter Manager Jan Wheatley, Parks Director of Activities Chuck Branham, Administrative Assistant Donna Baird~ Waetewater Treatment Manager Kendall Coleman, and Clerk Alice Davis. Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the minutes of of July 11~ 1994 as presented, seconded by Director Matra unanimously. the meeting and carried Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the payrolls as presented~ seconded by Director Matra and carried unanimously. DRAINAGE PROBLEM 1854 WALPOLE DRIVE (MARY COOPER) City Engineer Bob Miller reported that representative of Jacobi, Toombs and Lanz, 1854 Walpole Drive. Jorge said to give things together to report on. he talked with Jorge Lanz on the drainage problem at him about 2 weeks to get DOWNTOWN JEFFERSONVILLE STRATEGIC ACTION PLAN Jennifer Mead and Jim Urba~ reported strategic action plan project. They passed out a map of the project area. on the downtown Jeffersoville gave a review of the plan and (see copy) UNITED WAY Michelle King representing United Way explained that they changed the way they are handling the pledge cards. The Department Heads will take the package and distribute the cards to their employees and return them back to Harold Lakeman and Donna Baird. Donna asked everyone to return them in at next weeks Board of Public Works and Safety meeting. AID'S WALK Ed Kruger representing Aid's Walk '94 is requesting the Second Street Bridge closed for the Aid's Walk on Sunday September 25~ 199~ at 8:00pm. Mayor Parker asked Police Chief Rick Elliott if there was a problem with closing the Bridge on that date. Chief Elliott said that there would be no problem. Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the closing of Second Street Bridge on September 85, 199~ seconded by Director Matra, and carried unanimously. (see copy) PAGE B JULY 35, 1994 LETTER OF CREDIT FOR LANDSBURG COVE~SUBDIVtSION Building Commissioner Bill Gavin is requesting to release a certain portion of the Letter of Credit for Landsburg Cove Subdivision. Bill explained he has a letter of irrevocable letter of credit on section I of Landsburg Cove Subdivision in the amount of $2537398.00- Their requesting that the sanitairy sewers in section I in the amount of $69,898.00 be released from this Letter of Credit~ the sewers have been approved, tested and inspected by Mr. Best and Mr. Miller and have passed all the requirements. City Attorney Mike Gil!enwater said that if all the work has been completed then we can release the Letter of Credit. Director Matra made the motion to approve the request to release a portion of the Letter of Credit for Landsburg Cove Subdivision, at the recommendation of Building Commissioner Bill Gavin, seconded by Director Lakeman, and carried unanimously. REPAIR CLARIFIER VALVE 04, WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT Kendall Coleman, Wastewater Treatment Plant Manager reported that he is requesting the Boards approval to repair the 04 ciarifier valve at the Plant. Kendall recommends that they approve the bid from Irish Park, Inc. for $17,760.00. Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the repairs on clarifier valve ~4, seconded by Director Matra, and carried unanimously. (see copy) INDIANA WATER RECYCLING Wastewater Treatment Plant Manager Kendall Coleman reported that Indiana Water Recycling started up last Thursday and had a leak. Kendall met with them and they reported that the leak was due to the startup and they will get the problems under control and eliminate the odor. STREET LIGHT REQUEST City Engineer Bob Miller has a request from Mrs. Meyers~ 1037 Rhonda Drive for a street light. Bob recommends that the light be installed. Director Matra made the motion to approve the street light at 1037 Rhonda Drive at the request of Bob Miller, seconded by Director Lakeman~ and carried unanimously. ANNOUNCEMENT Police Chief Rick Elliott announced his retirement from the Jeffersonvi!le Police Department. Rick read a statement to the Board on his years with the Police Department. Mayor Parker said that it will be a loss to the City. Rick will be Assistant Superintendent of Parks and Recreation. There being no further business to come before the Board of Public Works and Safety~ Director Lakeman made the motion to adjourn at 10:lOa.m.~ seconded by Director Matra, a~d carried unan~ously. Throughout my twenty-two and a half years as a police officer I have held every rank from Patrolman ~o Colonel, including nine years of ser¥ice in the Detective Division. During my tenure I have serve~ under the administrations of three mayors and six police chiefs~ I was appo~nte~ Chief of Police by Mayor Raymond J. ~arker, Jr., and began ~ervlng in that capacity on January 1st, 19~2. ,,~al when a~ointed Chief of Police, was to do eve .L~Ything in my ~w~ ~o ~rovi=d~ the citizens of Jeffe~son~i~? wi~h. t~e _~est possible law enforcement available. It is with great pride that I say I was a Jeffersonville Police Officer for twenty-two and a half years.
