HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-31-1994MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA MONDAY JANUARY 31~ 1994 Mayor Raymond J. Parker Jr. called the meeting to order at 9:30 A.M., and on call of the roll those members present were Mayor Raymond J. Parker Jr., Personnel and Safet~ Director Harold Lakeman, and Sewage Collection Office Director Jim Matra. Also present were: Building Commissioner Bill Gavin, City Engineer Bob Miller, Street Commissioner George Trembly, City Attorney Mike Gilienwater, Sewage Office Manager Bob Goldman, Maintenance Foreman Mike Ewton, Plant Superintendent Larry James, Police Chief Rick Elliott, Fire Chief Jerry Dooiey, Animal Shelter Manager Jan Wheatiey, City Services Coordinator Leslie Kavanaugh, Parks Director of Activities Chuck Branham, Administrative Assistant Donna Baird and Clerk Alice Davis. Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the minutes of the meeting of January 84, 1994 as presented, seconded by Director Matra and carried unanimously. Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the payrolls as presented, seconded by Director Matra and carried unanimously. PERSONNEL CHANGES Building Commissioner Bill Gavin reported that he is making a personnel change in his office. He is moving Ken Morris up to Chief Electrical Inspector from Assistant Building Commissioner. Bill will not be hiring a new employee. There is no new money involved. Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the personnel changes in the Building Commissioners Office, seconded by Director Matra, and carried unanimously. IDEM MEETING City Attorney Mike Gillenwater reported that he, Larry James and Doug Ralston went to IDEM to talk about our permit, IDEM requested the meeting. We have been having trouble with copper. We now have the copper problem solved. We had a very good meeting with IDEM. BLIZZARD Personnel Director Harold Lakeman reported that Mayor Parkers asked to critique the blizzard. Mr. Lakeman has talked to the School Board and the Superintendent of Schools about using their facillities. Mr. Lakeman said that he is still waiting for a call from Dr. Roberts. Mr. Lakeman will give a report on this and a phone number to Police Chief Rick Elliott today. Mayor Parker said that after we get this in the final stage we need to get with all the Department Heads and everybody involved, also we need to go over the plan one morning at the Board Of Public Works and Safety meeting briefly so everybody will have knowledge of what we are going to do. PAGE 2 JANUARY 31, 1994 GOLF LEAGUE Parks Director Of Activities Chuck Branham reported that the Parks Department in conjunction with Hidden Creek Golf Course is starting a Spring golf league. Its a new program for the Parks Department. There are applications to be filled out. SEWER BACKUP Plant Superintendent Larry James reported a sewer backup on Friday in the 1000 block of Western Avenue to 3 houses. The backups were caused by grease. There is only one restaurant around that area~ but they checked it out and it has grease traps. Larry said that they are doing an investigation on this, but will probably have to pay for the carpet in the three houses. Larry said that they are checking the records on the grease traps to see when they were last cleaned. SEWER TAP-IN Plant Superintendent Larry James reported that he received a call from Mrs. Gelback on Charlestown Pike, Larry said that she tapped onto the sewer lines on Charlestown Pike and they have been backing up. She had to unhook and hook bacK' up to her septic tank. Larry said that she ran her line gravity and there was not enough fall on it and thats why it backed up. She can't tap on until she has a pump which will cost up to $5,000.00 to get it right. There being no further business to come before the Board of Public Works and Safety, Director Lakeman made the motion to adjourn at 9:50a.m.~ seconded by Director Marra, and carried unanimously.
