HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-23-1995 MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA MONDAY OCTOBER 23, 1995 Mayor Raymond J. Parker Jr. called the meeting to order at 9:30 A.M., and on call of the roll those members present were Mayor Raymond J. Parker Jr., Personnel and Safety Director Harold Lakeman, and Sewage Collection Office Director Jim Matra. Also present were~ Building Commissioner Bill Gavin, City Engineer Bob Miller, Street Commissioner George Trembly, City Attorney Mike Glllenwater, Sewage Office Manager Bob Goldman, Police Chief Charles Elder, Arson Inspector Randy Leverett, Maintenance Manager Mike Ewton, Animal Shelter Director Ed Voyles, City Services Coordinator Leslie Kavanaugh, Parks Superintendent Donnie Poole, Administrative Assistant Donna Baird, Wastewater Treatment Plant Director Kendall Coleman~ Councilperson Peggy Wilder, Councllperson Donna Frantz and Clerk Alice Davis. Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the minutes of the meeting of October 16, 1995 as presented, seconded by Director Matra and carried unanimously. Director Lakeman made th~ motion to approve the payrolls as presented, seconded by Director Matra and'carried unanimously. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. PARADE Sandra Johnson representing Martin Luther King, Jr. Committee is requesting to have a parade on January 15, 1996 starting at 12:30 P.M. Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the Martin Luther King, Jr. parade and respective route on January 15, 1996, seconded by Director Matra, and carried unanimously. Ms. Johnson has a banner that she would like to have hung. Commissioner Trembly said he would hang it if she would bring it to him. STREET LIGHT AT 200 BLOCK OF E. PARK PLACE Ferd Gaumann, is requesting a street light located in the 200 block of E. Park Piace. Mr. Gaumann sa~ld that it is very dark and his car has been damaged ahd his bay window was ~ egged, he also presented a petition signed by 4 neighbors. City Engineer Miller responded and said that Commissioner Trembly and himself measured the area before and this does not warrant a ~l~ht. Poli6'e Chief Elder said there are a lot of trees in the area that causes it to be dark. Mayor Parker asked Engineer Miller to go and look at it agal~ and bring his recommendations back to the Board. (see copy) PAGE 2 AUGUST 23, 1995 LETTER FROM COUNCIL CONCERNING LOUISVILLE BARREl, Mayor Parker reported that he received a letter from the City Council concerning Louisville Barrel requesting the Board to revoke the sewer tap in permit. Council President Wilder is asking for a hearing on October 23, 1995. Attorney Gillenwater said that is not enough time, because Louisville Barrel has to be notified and given a week to prepare for the hearing. Attorney Gillenwater suggested having the hearing on October 30, 1995. LETTER OF APPRECIATION FOR THE POLICE DEPARTMENT Mayor Parker read a letter from Wendy S. Swisher, Chief Executive Officer of Charter Behavioral Health System of Indiana at Jefferson. Ms. Swisher commended Police Chief Elder and the Police department for their professional and caring attitude in apprehending the ten runaways. (see copy) MERCHANTS FAIR AT RIVERFALLS MALI. Animal Shelter Ed Voyles reported that the Animal Shelter participated in the Merchants Fair at Riverfalls Mall on Saturday and Sunday and adopted out 17 animals and took in $750.00. It was very successful. TRICK OR TREAT Police Chief Elder reported that Trick or Treat will be on Tuesday October 31, 1995 from 6:00p.m. to 9:00p.m. WALK A THON Police Chief Elder reported that the Police Department will be assisting in the Providence Walk-A-Thon on Wednesday October 25, 1995. MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY JAIL-A-THON Police Chief Elder reported that Muscular Dystrophy is having a fund raiser, a Jait-A-Thon on Wednesday October 25, 1995 where warrants will be issued and people will be picked up and taken to Muscular Dystrophy at Hooters to post Bond, and they are requesting an Officer from our Department to assist in the arrest of local people in Jeffersonvllle, Capt. Schmidt will handle this. Director Matra made the motion to approve for an Police Officer assist in the arrests for Muscular Dystrophy, seconded by Director Lakeman, and carried unanimously. STREET LIGHT 828 MEIGS AVENUM City Engineer Bob Miller has a request for a street light at 828 Meigs Avenue, Bob recommends the light. Director Matra made the motion to approve the street light at 828 Meigs Avenue, seconded by Director Lakeman, and carried unanimously. PAGE 3 OCTOBER 23, 1995 REMINDER Street Commissioner Trembly wants to remind all the Department Heads that are involved that the mandatory CDL class is at 8:00am on Wednesday October 25, 1995 in the Mayors Conference Room for Supervisors and all City CDL drivers. HALLOWEEN DOWNTOWN Parks Superintendant Donnie Poole reported that Halloween Downtown will be this Friday October 27, 1995 from 6:00p.m. to 9:00p.m. Court Avenue between Spring and Wall Streets will be closed on both sides. REMINDER Administrative Assistant Donna Baird wants to remind everyone that the United Way cards should be in her office this week. There being no further business to come before the Board of Public Works and Safety, Director Lakeman made the motion to adjourn at 09:55a.m., seconded by Director Matra, and carried unanimously.
