Pa~ker, Jr. and on call ,.of the roll those members present were: Personnel and Safety Director Harold Lakeman, and Sewage Collection Office Director Jim Matra. .Also present were: Building Commissioner Bill Gavin, City Engineer Bob Miller, Street Commissioner George~ Trembly, Sewage Office Manager Bob Goldman, Police Chief Charles Elder, Fire Chief Jerry Dooley, Maintenance Manager Mike Ewton, Animal Shelter Director Ed Voyles, Parks Superintendent Rick Elliott, Wastewater Treatment Plant Director .Kendall Coleman, Clerk and Treasurer C. Richard Spencer Jr., and Clerk Alice Davis. Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the minutes'of the meeting of September 5, 1995 as presented, seconded by DirectOr Matra and carried unanimously. Direct~ L~man made the motion to approve the claims as presented, seconded by Director Matra, and carried unanimously. Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the payrolls as seconded by Director Matra and carried unanimously. ~WHEEL LOADER BID OPENING City Clerk- Treasurer the Wheel Loaders presented, C. Richard Spencer Jr. opened the only bid for WHAYNE SUPPLY COMPANY 1400 Cecil Avenue Louisville, Kentucky Bid: $81,929.00 Director Lakeman made the motion to take the bid under until next week, seconded by Director Matra and carried unanimously. 3 WAY STOP AT SPORTSMAN AND RIDGEWAY DRIVES Police Chief Charles Elder reported on the 3-way stop at Sportsman and Ridgeway Drives. Chief Elder read s petition from the Resldent~bf the 1100 block asking for a crosswalk painted on Sportsman at Ridgeway Drives to get to Mayfalr Apartments and a "Slow School Zone" sign put up. Director Lakeman made the motion to approve painting a crosswalk on Sportsman at Ridgeway Drives and a "slow school zone" sign, seconded by Dlrector Matra, and carried unanimously. (see copy) STREET LIGHTS IN ALLEY City Engineer Bob Miller reported on the street lights in alley's, Bob said he called PSI checking on how many there are now, Bob said there are quite a few and he recommends putting one at 334 Mechanic Street. Director Matra made the motion to approve the street light, seconded by Director Lakeman, and carried unanimously. PAGE 2 ' ~ i~ ,~ ~ SEPTEMBER 11, 1995 ~ TELEPHONE SOLICITATION FOR OHIO VALLEY BLIND ASSOCIATION Susanne Brumleve,~ representlngl Ohio Valley Blind Association is appearing before .the Board~ requesting permission to start the telephone solicitation for their annual mini circus on' Wednesday November 1~, 1995 at 6:00 & 8:00pm ~at the National Guard Armory in New Albany. The calls will be from Cinncinati starting soon. Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the telephone Solicitalon, seconded by Director Matra, and carried u~animously. SEWER TAP IN ON CARR CIRCLE Joe Towns, Cart Circle is requesting a sewer tap in'and asked Building Commissioner Gavin to speak for him. Commissioner Gavin said Mr. Towns is requesting a sewer tap in on Cart Circle that in the fringe area.~,~ Commissioner Gavin said Mr. Towns will have to sign a wavier for the right to remonstrate against annexation and have it reCorded and bring it to his office. Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the sewer tap in on Cart Circle, seconded by Director Matra, nanimously SEALING PARKING LOT AT WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT Wastewater Treatment Plant Director Kendall Coleman repOrted that the parking lot at the Wastewater Treatment Plant needs sealed. Director Coleman said he had taken bids for this project and he recommends that the bid be given to Striegel Asphalt Company, Inc. at a cost of s4,500.00. Director Lakeman, made the mOtionto approve awarding the bid for sealing the parking lot, seconded by Director Matra, and carried unanimously. (see copy) Administrative Assistant Donna Baird said that Mayor Parker wanted to extend his appreciation and thanks to all the Department Heads involved with the Steamboat Days Festival. Police Chief Elder said everything went well. . . Personnel and Safety Director Harold Lakeman announced for the second consecutive year the City of Jeffersgnvi!!el has w~n.~an.,awErd from IPEP and it will be presented at Indianapolis on October 3, 1995. ANIMALSHELTER ANNOUNCEMENT ..... ~.,i;¢ -'~ Shelter Director Ed Voyles announced that commencing this Saturday the Shelter will be opening on Saturday from 11:00-2:00 P.M. On December 9, 1995 this will be re-evaluated to see if it is successful and that will make our decision to continue on Saturdays or not. PAGE 3 SEPTEMBER 11, 1995 UPDATE PLANS FOR INTERSECTION OF DUTCH LANE AND HAMBURG PIKE City Engineer Bob Miller reported that he received a letter from Kloeker Engineering, P.C. asking that the City update the plans for the Intersection Improvement of Hamburg Pike and Dutch Lane at a cost not to exceed S2,500.00 if it is not metric. Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the spending of $2,500.00 to complete the Engineers plans of Dutch Lane and Hamburg Pike Intersection, seconded by Director Matra, and carried unanimously. (see copy) BRIDGE CLOSING FOR LOUISVILLE AIDS WALK Police Chief Elder has a request to close the 2nd. Street Bridge on Sunday September 24, 1995 at noon to 5:00 p.m. and also surrounding streets. Director Matra made the motion to approve by the recommendation of Chief Elder to close 2nd. Street Bridge on September 24, 1995, seconded by Director Lakeman, and carried unanimously. (see copy) There being no further business to come before the Board of Public Works and Safety, Director Lakeman made the motion to adjourn at 09:50a.m., seconded by Director Matra, and carried unanimously.
