OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA
MONDAY AUGUST 14~ 1995
~ Mayor Raymond J. Parker Jr. called the meeting to order at 9:30 A.M.~

Parker Jr.~ Sewage Collection Office Director Jim Matra, Street
'~Commissioner George Trembly took the place of Personnel and Safety
Director Harold Lakeman in his absence.
Also present were: Building Commissioner Bill Gavin, City Engineer Bob
Miller~ City Attorney Mike Gillenwater, Sewage Office Manager Bob
Goldman~ Maintenance Foreman Mike Ewton, Police Chief Charles Elder,
Fire Inspector Major Clark Miles, Animal Shelter Director Ed Voyles~
City Services Coordinator Leslie Kavanaugh, Parks Superintendent Rick
Elliott, Administrative Assistant Donna Baird, Wastewater Treatment
Plant Manager Kendall Coleman, Councilpersons Andrew Williams III,
Barbara~Wilson and Clerk Alice Davis.
Director Matra made the motion to approve the minutes of the meeting
of August ?, 1995 as presented, seconded by Member Trembly and carried
unanimously.
Director Matra made the motion to approve the payrolls as presented~
seconded by Member Trembly and carried unanimously.
SPEED REDUCTION ON NORTH SPRING sTREET
Police Chief Charles Elder talked with Commissioner Trembly and
~-'Engineer' Miller aboot reducing the speed limit on North Spring Street
ito 25 MPH~ because that's what it is all the way on Spring Street
~around Spring Hill School. Chief Elder recommends from Eastern Blvd.
to Dutch Lane reducing it to ~5 MPH. City Attorney Gillenwater said
this needs to be an Ordinance by going through the Council.
FIRE SCHOOL -
Tom Sellmer~ explained that on Sunday August 27~ 1995~ the Indiana
Fire Instructors Association will be conducting a training class at
119 Wellinger Lane. Mr. Sellmer wanted to inform the Board about
this. Inspector Clark Miles said Mr. Sellmer has worked with the
State as'well as the City. Director Matra made the motion to approve
the Fire School Training Class on August 27~ 1995~ at 119 Wellinger
Lane, seconded by Member Trembly and carried unanimously.
OAK PARK ARTS AND CRAFTS FESTIVAL
Gary Reisinger~ representing Oak Park Arts and Crafts Festival is
requesting banners be hung announcing the Festival for Septemberl5,
16, 17, 1995. Mayor Parker explained about how and where the banners
can be hung and the piaces that Mr. Reisinger is requesting cannot be
used. Commissioner Trembly said he can hang one on the Street
Department fence~ and Plant Manager C~!eman said he could hang one on
~,,¢--~he loth 'Street Lift Station near the railroad track.

RESIDENT PARKING~ 319 MEIGS AVENUE
Terry Curtis is requesting a resident parking sign in of front Ann May
McComas his Mother-In-Laws house at 317 Meigs Avenue because she is
ill and has to be driven different places and neighbors cars are
always parked in front of her house. Mayor Parker explained that he
could have a Handicap Sign without cost. Mayor Parker asked Chief
Elder to take care of this.
1996 HOLIDAY
Mayor Parker presented to the Board a list of Holiday's for 1996 that
were approved by the County Commissioners for County workers and he is
requesting the City also adopt these Holidays. Director Matra made
the motion to approve the 1996 Holiday list in conjunction with the
County Commissioners~ seconded by Member Trembly, and carried
unanimously.
Street Commissioner George Trembly reported the right turn lane on
12th Street has been completed.
POLICE RETIREMENT AND PROMOTIONS
Police Chief Elder reported that Lt. Larry Jordan will be retiring as
of August 15, 1995. Chief Elder said he is requesting promotions for
Sgt. John Monihon to Lt. and Corp. Jim Cash to Sgt. effective August
15, 1995. Director Matra made the motion to approve the promotions
recommended by Chief Eider, seconded by Member Trembly, and carried
unanimously.
RAILROAD CROSSING AT 9TH & V.F.W. BLVD.
City Engineer Bob Miller said the railroad didn't do the repairs last
week on the railroad crossing at 9th and V.F.W. Blvd.~ they will be
starting it this morning.

REQUEST FROM MRS. NOLAN
Councilperson Andrew Williams III~ thanked the Board for granting Mrs.
Nolan her request. Mr. Williams believes that requests like this
should be brought to the Councilpersons attention in their district so
the Council knows about it. Mayor Parker said he doesn't think it's
really necessary to get a Councilperson involved unless they are
particularly interested.

N.E. CORNER OF SPRING & 14th STREET
Councilperson Andrew Williams III, reported that the N.E. corner of
Spring & 14th Street where the residents of Claysburg Towers cross to
go to the bank is very dangerous intersection to cross. Mr. Williams
had the opportnity to cross there with some of the elderly residents
and it takes them a long time~ and now that there is heavy truck
traffic it is a dangerous situation for the elderly crossing there and
Mr. Williams would like for something be done to help for safety
reasons. Commissioner Trembly said he would take care of this.
There being no further business to come before the Board of Public
Works and Safety~ Director Matra made the motion to adjourn at
lO:OOa.m., seconded by Member Treambly~ and carried unanimously.
