HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-01-1996MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA MONDAY APRIL 1, 1996 Mayor Thomas R. Galligan called the meeting to order at 9:30 A.M., and on call of the roll those members present were: Mayor Thomas Galligan, Personnel Director Harold Lakeman, and Safety Director Anthony Harrod. Also present were: Deputy to the Mayor Phil McCauley, Building Commissioner Bill Gavin, City Engineer Bob Miller, Street Commissioner George Trembly, City Attorney Anne Marie Sedwick, Sewage Office Manager Bob Goldman, Police Ma3or Gary Woods, Fire Chief Mike Smith, Assistant Fire Chief William Davis, Vehicle Maintenance Foreman Mike Ewton, Animal Shelter Director Jim Gillenwater, Planning and Development Director Jim Urban, Parks Maintenance Superintendent Donnie Poole, Wastewater Treatment Plant Manager Kendall Coleman, Wastewater Treatment Plant Assistant Manager Joe Goergen, and Clerk Alice Davis. Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the minutes of the meeting of March 25, 1996 as presented, seconded by Director Harrod and carried unanimously. Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the claims as presented, seconded by Director Harrod, and carried unanimously. Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the payrolls as presented, seconded by Director Harrod and carried unanimously. SIGNS FOR JO'S BARBER SHOP The signs for Jo's Barber Shop was discussed and Mayor Galligan said there is already 2 hour parking in front of the Shop and Street Commissioner Trembly and Major Woods said if they did this for Jo's they would be putting signs up for every business on Court Avenue, he suggested to have the Police enforce the two hour parking and there is also some parking on the side street. Mayor Galligan asked if there could be more parking on Court Avenue up to the corner of Watt Street for Compact Cars sign. Mayor Galligan asked if M3r. Woods get with Bob and George to come Up with a solution. SIGN AT MARKET AND SPRING STREETS Bonnie Wise of Jenny Lind Tea Room is requesting to have a sign put up at the corner of Market and Spring Streets for directions to her business at 249 Spring Street on Thursdays and Fridays only, when she's open for business. Building Commissioner Gavin said it has to go before the Historical Board of Review. After ~uch discussion on different ways of putting directional signs up it was agreed that Jim Urban check on this and bring his recommendations to the Board in the next couple Of'weeks. PAGE 2 APRIL 1, 1996 CAR CRUISE Erick Faust of Louisville Automobile Museum is having a car cruise on May 11, 1996 and is asking for Police assistance after they come over the second street bridge to 1-65 ramp going south to Louisville. After discussion it was agreed to come off of second street bridge right to Riverside Drive to Spring Street to Court Avenue to 1-65 ramp south with a Police escort. DISCUSSION REGARDING RESIDENT PARKING SIGNS Mayor Galligan presented a list of resident parking signs. There was discussion on what to do about resident parking signs. It was agreed to lower the cost per year from $100.00 to $50.00 starting April 1, 1996 and send out letters to the ones that have not paid in the last year to see if they still wanted it. Director Lakeman made the motion to approve lowering the resident parking signs from $100.00 to $50.00 as of April 1, 1996, seconded by Director Harrod, and carried unanimously. (see copy) PROMOTION OF JOHN PALMER Fire Chief Mike Smith presented to the Board the promotion of John Palmer to Major on the shift effective April 1, 1996. Director Harrod make the motion to approve the promotion of John Palmer, seconded by Director Lakeman, and carried unanimously~ PERSONNEL Street Commissioner George Trembly has a request to give Calvin Oliver a .25 increase for his CDL driver. Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the .25 increase for Calvin Oliver, seconded by Director Harrod and carried unanimously. (see copy) STREET LIGHTS ON HOSKINS LANE City Engineer Bob Miller has a request for 2 street lights on Hosklns Lane. Director Harrod made the motion to approve the 2 street lights on Hoskins Lane, seconded by Director Lakeman, and~ Carried unanimous ly. psi ENERGY'S PEAK REDUCTION PROGRAM Wastewater Treatment Plant Manager Kendall Coleman reported that PSI Energy's Peak Reduction program is being discontinued and they will not be renewing the Agreement. (see copy) There being no further business to come before the Board of Public Works and Safety, Director Lakeman made the motion to adjourn at 10:t5a.m.~ seconded by Director ca~~nimously.
