Galligan called the meeting to order a~ 9~30 A.M., and on call of the roll those members present were~ Mayor Thomas R. Galligan, Personnel Director Harold Lakeman, and Safety Director Anthony Harrod. Also present were: Deputy to the Mayor Phil McCauleY, Building Commissioner Bill Gavin, City Engineer Bob Mlller~ Street Commissioner George Trembly, City Attorney Anne Marie Sedw~ck, Sewage Office Manager Bob Goldman, Police Chief Mike Pavey, Fire Chief Mike Smith, Assistant Fire Chief William Davis, Vehicle Maintenance Foreman Mike Ewton, Animal Shelter Director Jim Gillenwater, Planning and Development Director Jim Urban, Parks Superintendent Rick Elliott, Wastewater Treatment Plant Manager Kendall Coleman; Wastewater Treatment Plant Assistant Manager Joe Goergen, Clerk and Treasurer C. Richard Spencer Jr., and Clerk Alice Davis. Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the minutes of the meeting of February 26, 1996 as presented, seconded by DirecTor Harrod and carried unanimouslY. Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the claims as presented, seconded by Director Harrod and carried unanim0u~ly. Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the payrolls as presented, ~seconded by Director Harro~ and carried unanimously. TWO-HOUR REQUEST AT 526 E. MAPLE STREET Police Chief Mike Pavey reported on the two-hour request at 526 E. Maple Street. Chief Pavey talked with Capt. Schmidt and he did not talk to the owners of the business there. After discussion it was agreed to grant a two-hour parking sign. Director Harrod made the motion to approve the two-hour request, seconded by Director Lakeman, and carried Unanimously. LEASE CONTRCT FOR CELLULAR TOWER Cheryl Pence did not appear before the contract for Cellular Tower. STEAMBOAT DAYS FESTIVAL PARADE FLOATS Board concerning the lease Mayor Galligan is requesting that all the City Departments have a float in the Steamboat Days Festival Parade. Mayor Galligan said we are trying to revitalize the Steamboat Days. Also we are thinking about giving away some awards, like $300.00 first place, S100.00 second place to the Departments to give to their employees for the time they spent on it. FIRE HYDRANTS PAGE 2 MARCH 4, 1996 Assistant Fire Chief Billy Davis is requesting to have fire hydrants installed at Nor~ ~°rt Executive Park. Director Harrod made the motion to approve, the fire hydrants in North Port Executive Park, seconded by Director Lakeman, and carried unanimously. POLICE NEW HIRE FOR DISPATCHER police chief' Mike pa~ey is ~a~ki~ for permiSsi0~ ~o hire LY~ H~0ck for the 6th. Dispatcher position. Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the hiring of Lydia Hammock for the 6th Dispatcher position, seconded by Director HarFod, and carried unanimously. Police Chief Mike Pavey reported that he has letters concerning Thunder for residents on Riverside Drive and the event area. The Police Department will go door to door handing them out. Also Chief Pavey presented the street closings and rules and guidelines for Thunder. Director Lakeman made the motion to adopt the ~rules and guidelines for Thunder, seconded by Director Harrod, and carried unanimously. (see copy) HANDICAP PARKING REQUEST AT 823 MEIGs AVENU~ Jerry Cochran, 823 Meigs Avenue is requesting a handicap Parking sign at 823 and 825 Meigs Avenue for her mother. Ms. Cochran's mother has breathing problems and her neighbor parks in front of her residence. Mayor Galligan said he will have Police Chief Pavey inves~i~%e~th~is and bring his recommendations back to the Board next week. ANNEXATION Street Commissioner George Trembly is requesting permission to ~end a letter to the people whose property was annexed on December 22, 1995 telling them their garbage pick up day will be effective on March 21 instead of March 22, because of that area being picked up on Thursdays. Director Lakeman made the moti0h~ ~pprove Sending a letter to the people in the newly annexed area for garbage pickup to be effective March 21, 1996 instead of March 22, 1996, seconded by Director Harrod, and carried unanimously. RECENT ANNEXATION installed on Sedwick will installation Mike Kopp, 2813 Hoskins Drive is requesting that water be Hoskins Lane for 9 residents. City Attorney Anne Marie contact the Water Company and get' some information on the of water in annexed areas. SWING LANE LIFT STATION Joe Goergen is requesting to replace tow motors and two motor couplings for the Swing Lane Lift Station. (see copy) PAGE 3 MARCH 4, 1996 WILLIAMS STREET A resident on Williams Street appeared before the Board and requested a stop sign and street speed limit signs. Chief Pavey said he sent Capt. Schmidt out and had him checking on speeders. They are also requesting street lights at Williams and Woodlawn. City Engineer Bob Miller said that the street light at Williams and Woodlawn has already been approved. Chief Pavey and Engineer Miller will go out and see if a stop sign is suitable and bring his recommendations back to the Board next week. There being no further business to come before the Board of Public Works and Safety, Director Lakeman made the motion to adjourn at 10:20a.m., seconded by Director Ha~andMAYORV~%~G~~~car~ied unanimously.
