HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-29-1997MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA MONDAY,OCTOBER 20,1997 Planning and Development Director Jim Urban chaired the meeting in Mayor Galligan's absence and on call of the roll those members present were: City Engineer Bob Miller, and Street Commissioner George Trembly sitting in for Planning and Development Director Jim Urban. Also present were: Parks Superintendent Rick Elliott~ Wastewater Treatment Plant Assistant Director Scott Tlmmerman, Building Commissioner Yancy Pinkston, Animal Shelter DirectOr Jim Gillenwater Fire Chief"Mike. Smith, Assistant Street Commissioner Bobby Ervin, Goldman, and Clerk Lynne Kempf. Sewage office M~ger EOb ' ~ .... ~ ~ ..... '~ city Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the minutes as presented, seconded by Street Commissioner Trembly and carried unanimously. ROADBLOCK Set'Hanie Davis asked permission to hold a rOadblock on Friday, October 24th between 10a.m. and 5 p.m. at Market and Main Streets. They are collecting for Zeta Phi Beta Sorority. Street Commissioner Trembly made the motion to approve the roadblock~ seconded by City Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. WYANDOTTE Wastewater Treatment Plant Assistant Director Scott Tlmmerman ~ddre~S~d oil and grease problems at Wyandotte. He said there were s~v~ral dumpsters overflowing with grease and running into the storm sewers. He said this has been an ongoing problem and violations have been addressed in the past but it continues to happen. After much discussion, it was decided that Wyandotte will be given a week to clean up the grease and a letter will be sent by City Attorney Galligan citing them in to the Board to address the issues that were seen on Friday, October 10, 1997. City Attorney Galligan said that after their notification of these things~ Wyandotte can be fined if these Probi'ems Continue to Qcqur. Street Commissioner Trembly made the motion to approve these actions, seconded by ~i~y Engiheer Miller and carried unanimously. COUNCIL FOR AGING Planning and Zoning further discussion. Director Urban said this would be tabled for PAGE 2 OCTOBER 20, 1997 408 W. MARKET STREET Director Urban said there has been no resolution on this matter yet so it was tabled until next week. 1206 TREVILLIAN Building Commissioner Pinkston checked this property again and said there hasn't been much change. There is still alot of clutter in the yard of Billy Prentice. City Engineer Miller made the motion to send Mr. Prentice a letter giving him 15 days to clean up his yard or he will be fined~ seconded by Street Commissioner Trembly and carried unanimously. 916 WALNUT STREET Pete Newsom was cited in last week for failure to maintain his property but didn't appear before the Board. Street Commissioner Trembly made the motion to have Building Commissioner Plnkston send Mr. Newsom a letter stating that he has 15 days to clean up his property or he will be fined, seconded by City Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. THIRD BASE Building Commissioner Pinkston stated that he has gotten no response from Third Base Tavern since he cited them into the Board of Public Works° There is a beam needing to be reinforced on the 3rd floor. Building Commissioner Pinkston was instructed by City Attorney Galligan to send a Certification Notice of Unsafe Structure and be given 15 days to begin work to repair. MAGNOLIA AVENUE Assistant Street Commissioner Bob Ervin said that there has been no change in the garbage problem at the apartments on Magnolia Avenue. The owner was cited in to the Board on September 29, 1997 at which time she said she would take care of the problem. City Engineer Miller made the motion to fine the owners $200.00 per day until the problem is taken care of, seconded by Street Commissioner Trembly and carried unanimously. PAGE 3 OCTOBER 2~, 1997 TREE TRIMMING Street Commissioner Trembly said a couple of businesses on Spring Street have asked to have the trees in front of their businesses trimmed. Trembly said there are approximately 39 trees along Spring Street and he has gotten an estimate to trim them at $50.00 per tree or $500 per day, whichever is lowest. After some discussion, Director Urban asked Street Commissioner Trembly to have the city's crew to trim the limbs of the ones that are needing it most. GREASE TRAPS Wastewater Treatment Plant Assistant Dlrector Timmerman asked for an update from Building Commissioner Pinkston on restaurant grease trap inspections. Building Commissioner Plnkston said almost all have been inspected and he will get Timmerman a report on the findings. There being no further business to come before the Board of Public Works and Safety, City Engineer Miller made the motion to adjourn at 10:3~ a.m., seconded by Street Commissioner Trembly and carried unan lmo~s ly.
