HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-14-1997MINUTES OF THE BOARD O~ PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA MONDAY,OCTOBER 14,1997 Planning and Development Director Jim Urban chaired the meeting in Mayor Galllgan's absence and on call of the roll those members presen5 were: City Engineer Bob Miller, and Street Commissioner George Trembly sitting in for Planning and Development Director Jim Urban. Also present were: Parks Superintendent Donnle Poole, Police Chief Mike Pavey, Was~ewater Treatment Plant Assistant Director Scott Tlmmerman, Building Commissioner Yancy Pinkston, Animal Shelter Assistamt Rick Broy, Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor Mike Ewton, AsSistant Fire Chief Bill Davis, Assistant Street Commissioner Bobby Ervin, Sewage Office Manager Bob Goldman, and Clerk Lynne Kempf. City Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the minutes as presented, seconded by Street Commissioner Trembly and carried unanimously. WEBER DANCE STUDIO Bu'lld~lng Commissioner Pinkston said the previously discussed problems have been' ~ taken .care of. The dirt has been moved,-~ the walk poured, and the alley has been patched. ~ 408 W. MARKET STREET Chief~Pavey ~sked that this be tabled until next week. City Engineer Miller made the motion to table until next week, seconded by Street Commissioner Trembly and carried unanimously. PICK-UP PURCHASE City Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the purchase of a 1998 Dodge Pick-up Truck from Vlssing's Dodge for $19,589.00, seconded by Street Commissioner Trembly and carried unanimously. COUNCIL FOR AGEING AGREEMENT Director Urban recommended tabling this until next week. OCTOBER 14, 1997 PAGE 2 412 MARKET STREET Angela Williams of 412 W. Market Street requested a Resident Only parking sign at 408 W. Market Street which are apartments. She said her husband wants to park his truck there so they can keep an eye on it because he has"~alot of expensive equipment in it. After discussion, Chief Pavey said he would need to go to the location and try to Work something out on the parking situation and report back to the Board next week. PARKING PROBLEM Mike Wasdovich spOke in regards to parking problems in of E. Court Avenue where he lives and has tenants. Pavey said the problem has been resolved. the 300 block Police Chief CITATIONS Building Commissioner Pinkston cited Billy Prentice into the Board for failure to cut his grass and clutter in his yard. Mr. Prentice said the grass has been cut but water in his yard prevents him from cutting his grass many times. He said he's had this water problem for years and has spoken to various people about it. As far as the clutter, Mr. Prentice said he has seven children and their toys are in the yard because he has no where else to put them. Building Commissioner Pinkston said he would go out and look at the property and report back next week. Gerald Hallows of 1210 Birchwood was cited into the Board by Building Commissioner Pinkston for a tent he had erected attached to his garage with newspapers and various other things stored under it. Director Urban said Mr. Hallows also has a lot at the end of Lee Street that has some open storage. Mr. Hallow's appeared before the Board and said the tent has been taken down and that he's in the process of selling the lot on Lee and Highland Street. He agreed not to have open storage and Director Urban said he would need to stop storing and dumping yard waste or the matter will be turned.9ver tO City Attorney Galllgan. Peter Newsom of 916 Walnut Street was cited by Building Commissioner Plnkston because of overgrown grass. Mr. Newsom didn't appear before the Board so Building Commissioner Pinkston will re~heck the property to see if anything elso has been done and report back. PAGE 3 OCTOBER 14, 1997 HALLOWEEN IN DOWNTOWN Asst. Parks Superintendent Donnie Poole asked permission to close Spring Street from Court to Market Street on Friday, October 24th from 5:00 to 8:30 p.m. Street Commissioner Trembly said he would set the barricades. Street Commissioner Trembly made the motion to close the street, seconded by City Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. MARKET STREET LIGHT City Englneer Miller made the motion to put up a alley behlnd 209 W. Market Street, seconded by Trembly and carrled~ unanimously. street light in the Street Commissioner TAP FEE Wastewater Treatment Plant Assistant Director Timmerman reported that General Electric Appliance Warehouse will be locating at the Clark Maritime Center and will need a tap fee set. They are looking at 36,000 gallons per day. The commercial fee is $1,200 for each 300 gallons of daily flow. The tap fee total is $14,400.00. There is also a $25.00 inspection fee. City Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the tap fee and the inspection fee, seconded by Street Commissioner Trembly and carried unanimously. Wastewater Treatment Plant Assistant Director Timmerman said that 4 homes on Missouri Avenue are discharging raw sewage illegally. City Engineer Miller said this matter is being looked into at this time. Timmerman said Buckheads and Kingfish have called already have a sewer line there for their taps, the Annie's was using. for taps. They same one Towboat There being no further business to come before the Board of Public Works and Safety, City Engineer Miller made the motion to adjourn at 10:30 a.m., seconded by Street Commissioner Trembly and carried unanimously.
