HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-06-1997MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA MONDAY,OCTOBER 6,1997 Mayor Thomas Galllgan called the meeting to order at 9:30 A.M. and on call of the roll those members present were: City Engineer Bob Miller, and Planning and Development Director Jim Urban. Also present were: Asst.Parks Superintendent Rick Elliott,Assistant Police Chief John Monihon, Wastewater Treatment Plant Assistant Director Scott Timmerman, Building Commissioner Yancy Pinkston, Animal Shelter Director Jim Gillenwater, Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor Mike Ewton, Fire Chief Mike Smith, City Attorney Anne Marie Galligan , and Clerk Lynne Kempf. City Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the minutes of September 29,1997, as presented, seconded by Director Urban and carried unanimously. SEWER LINE City Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the proposed subdivision for sewers hooking into Lansberg Cove that was requested by David Blankenbaker at the September 29th Board meeting, seconded by Director Urban and carried unanimously. SEWER PROBLEM Sylvia Livingston spoke in regards to her sewer problem at 710 E. 9th Street. Mayor Galligan asked her to check various things such as her toilet , water softener, etc. He said she obviously has a major leak of some sort. WEBER DANCE STUDIO Betty Weber Flock who owns Weber Dance Studio voiced ~pncern about the contractor who's doing the construction on the Center for Lay Ministr~l~'.' She said they have piled a la~g~ '~am~uht 6~ dirt on her p~k~ng :1o~ 'and ar~ tearing up the all~y area. Building C6mmlslOner pinkstOn said he would get the dirt problem taken care of and Assistant Street Commissioner Ervin will look at the alley problem and report back. RESIDENTIAL PARKING PAGE 2 OCTOBER 6, 1997 David Nemeth of 408 W. Market Street spoke in regards to a problem with his neighbor wanting to take up the parking space in front of their apartments and not allowing anyone else to park there. He said his car has been shot with a BB gun and is concerned about what else his neighbor might do. Assistant Police Chief Monihon said he would speak to the neighbor and look at granting Mr.Nemeth a Resident Only parking sign and will report back-to the Board next week. TRUCK PURCHASE Wastewater Treatment Plant Assistant Director Tlmmerman asked approval to purchase a 1998 Dodge Pick-up truck. He obtained 2 prlces~ one from Slone for $18~550.00 and one from Vissing~s Dodge for $19,5789.~. Director Urban made the motion to take this under advisement until the next meeting, seconded by City Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. COUNCI.~ FOR AGING An agreement from the Council for the Aging was up for approval. Parks Superintendent Rick Elliott asked that this be tabled so he can look into it. Director Urban made the motion to table this until next week, seconded by City Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. 507 E. NINTH STREET Building Commissioner Pinkston inspected the address of 507 E. Ninth Street and said that Mr. Washnot has put new floor Joist in and is making progress to get the house ready to be rented out. Building Commissioner Pinkston recommends granting him permission to do this. He was given 45 days to make the necessary repairs at the Board meeting of September 29, 1997. INDUSTRIAL NIGHTMARE Michael Cruz of Industrial Nightmare spoke about people parking in handicapped spaces illegally in front of Industrial Nightmare on Spring Street. Assistant Police Chief Monihon said the handicapped parking would be enforced~ Mayor ~al!±gan asked Mr. Cruz to call'and remind the police department each year during the Industrial Nightmare season to enforce the handicapped parking. PAGE 3 OCTOBER 6, 1997 1016 LOCUST STREET Building Commissioner Pinkston said he inspected the property of Ms. Malone at 1016 Locust which was discussed at the previous Board meeting. He said Ms. Malone still has her personal effects in the house and that she is in very poor health. Even though the house is in very bad condition, he recommends giving her at least 3 or 4 months because of her serious health problems. There being no further business to come before the Board of Public Works and Safety, City Engineer Miller made the motion to ad3ourn at carried unanimously.
