HomeMy WebLinkAbout09-15-1997MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF~OBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA MONDAY,SEPTEMBER 15~1997 Mayor Thomas Galligan called the meeting 'to order at 9:30 A.M. and on call of the roll those members present were: City Engineer Bob Miller, and Planning and Development Director Jim Urban. Also present were: Street Commissioner George Trembly, Asst. Parks Superintendent Rick Elliott,Police Chief Mike Pavey, Wastewater Treatment Plant Assistant Director Scott Tlmmerman, Building Commissioner Yancy Pl~kston, Animal Shelter Director Jim Giltenwater, City Engineer Bob Miller, Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor Mike Ewton, Planning and Development Director Jim Urban and Clerk Lynne Kempf. Director Urban made the motion to approve the minutes of September 8,1997, as presented, seconded by City Engineer Bob MlII~r and carried unanimously. City Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the payrolls as presented, seconded by Director Urban and carried unanimously. 3503 ELKE POINTE BLVD. Building Commissioner Yancy Plnkston reported on his findings when he went out to inspect the building code violation at 3503 Elke Pointe Blvd., the residence of Conrad Embry. He said the ceiling height in the area in question is 6'2" when it should be 6'8". Mro Embry is uncertain as to what action he is going to take at this time and if he will file a claim against the builder. . K OF C STREET DANCE Kevin Burke asked approval for K of C to hold a Street Dance on Saturday, September 27, from 8 p.m.-12 a.m. Director Urban made the motion to approve the Street Dance, seconded by City Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. CHOICE PROGRAM Loretta Broady presented info on the Choice Program. It is set up to help handicapped or disadvantaged students get the training they need to prepare them for today's 3ob market. PAGE 2 SEPTEMBER 15~ 1997 AMERICAN LEGION Mike Schlpper~ on behalf of the American Legion as~.he..q!t~ to p~t~ up a few signs that let people know of the American Legion in our area. He also requested 3 handicapped parking signs. Mayor Gailigan asked Mr. Schipper to find out where to get the American L~glon signs and what the cost is and get back with him. Mayor Galllgan said the handicapped parking signs would be no Problem. INTER-CITY ROAD CLAIMS Donna Kammeyer~ submitted. 2 clalms for-approval_. .They were to Mll!s~ Biggs, Haire, and Reisert Co. for appraisals. '~O~e was for $2,500.00 and the other for $5,200.00~ City Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the claims, seconded by Director Urban and carried unanimous ly. SANITARY SEWER EASEMENT City Engineer Miller said he and Director Urban went out and looked at the sewer easement at 2410 Logan Lane. City Engineer Miller said he sees no problem with the location of a house on that property. City Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the location of the house on the lot~ seconded by Director Urban and carried unan~moUsly~' ~ HYDRAULIC EXCAVATOR City Attorney Galligan asked the Board to approve the purchase of a used Hydraulic Excavator for the Sewer Dept. in the amount of $$7,~0~.~o She said there is a declaration that has to be made stating that this equipment is necessary for op~rati0n and that it i's a great saving for the City at this price and must be Board approved.City Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the purchase of the used 235B ~ydraulic Excavator~ seconded by Director Urban and carried unanimously. PAGE 3 SEPTEMBER 15, 1997 EMERGENCY RESPONSE PLAN Wastewater Treatment Plant Assistant Director Scott Tlmmerman reported that the Emergency and Response Plan is put together. CURB CUT BIDS City Attorney Galligan opened 3 bids on Curb Cuts. They were as follows: Dial One Pleasure Valley Construction-S99,526.30 Trigger Hunt Concrete Constructlon-$80,550.00 Golden Shamrock, Inc.-$92,327.00 City Engineer Miller made the motion to take the bids under advisement for one week, seconded by Director Urban and carried unanimously. GREASE TRAP FEE Building Commissioner Yancy Pinkston inquired about how much to charge for grease trap fees. After discussion, it was decided to look into it and present at the next meeting. FEAST OF HARVEST MOON Rick Elliott on behalf of Jay Ellis reminded everyone of the Festival of the Harvest Moon on Saturday, September 20th from 5:30 to 11:30 p.m. at the foot of Spring Street and Riverside Drive. GROUNDBREAKING Mayor Galligan reminded everyone of the groundbreaking Buckhead's on Friday, September 19th at 10:30 aom.
