HomeMy WebLinkAbout06-30-1997MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA MONDAY JUNE 30,1997 Planning and Development Director Jim Urban, in Mayor,s Galligan's absence,called the meeting to order at 9:30 A.M~, and on call of the roll those members present were= Safety Director Harold Lakeman, and filling in for Director Urban was City Engineer Bob Miller. Also present were: Street Commissioner George Trembly, Planning and Development Director Jim Urban,City Engineer Bob Miller, Wastewater Treatment Plant Assistant Director Scott Tlmmerman, Sewage Office Mananger Bob Goldman, Building Commissioner Yancy Pinkston, Assistant Police Chief John Monihon, Fire Chief Mike Smith, Parks Superintendent Rick Elliott, Vehicle Maintenance Foreman Mike Ewton, City Attorney Anne Marie Galligan and Clerk Lynne Kempf. City Engineer Miller, sitting in for Director Urban made the motion to approve the minutes as presented, seconded by Director Lakeman and carried unanimously. SPEED LIMIT SIGN Leslie L~a%el~ of 1209 Melody Lane spoke in regards to her concern over motorists speeding through the Hallmark Apartments making it dangerous for children. City Engineer Miller said he and Street Commissioner George Trembly would check it out with the Police Chief and see about installing some speed limit signs. They w~ll come back with a recommendation at the next meeting. BENCH BILLBOARD City Attorney Galligan discussed whether or not we want b~nch signs On city property, and if so we need to have these companies go through the bidding process. After some discussion, Director Lakeman made the motion to deny advertising benches in the city, seconded by City Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. RESIDENT PARKING Ray Roberts of 318 & 320 Graham Street requested a resident only parking sign. The police department will cheCk the location and report back next week. JUNE,~(~, 1997 PAGE 2 ROAD CLOSURE City Engineer Bob Miller spoke on behalf of Mr. Pottschmidt with Mitchell and Start Construction Company in regards to closing Holman's Lane for 8 hours for a wet tap. Director Urban suggested that the conStructi0n COmpanY do ~his W0rk at night if Possible since Holman's Lane is such a heavily traveled road during normal hours. City Engineer Miller said he would check with Mr. Pottschmidt on this suggestion. PORT ROAD At a previous board meeting~ th~ board voted in favor Of raising the speed limit and installing new signs on Port Road. City Engineer Miller said he Just recently attended a meeting at the Port and he informed Rodney Gross of the speed limit change. Mr. Gross said this will not be done on Port Road between Utica Pike and Middle Road as this portion of road does not belong to the city. The city can change the iimit' betWeen Middle R6ad ~nd'Highway 62 with no Problem. EMMISSIONS TESTING DIRECTIONAL SIGNS Director Urban said that someone from INDOT came in and they are opening a new emmissions testing center in Jeffersonville. They provided'him with a list of the locations where they would like signs placed. INDOT will put up the first 3 signs as they are on state right of ways. They would like for the city to install from number 4 to 10 and we can bill them for the installation and the POleS or they can provide the poles. SPEED LIMIT SIGN Street Commissioner George Trembly requested two 25 m.p.h, speed limit signs on Thompson Lane. Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the speed limit signs, seconded by City Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. SUMMER WORK HOURS Street Commissioner George Trembly asked approval on the summer work hours. Because of heat the workday Will begin a{ 6:00 a.m. instead Of 7:00 a.m. JONC 3~ 1997 PAGE 3 CENTER LINING STREETS Street Commissioner George Trembly asked permission to double yellow line Maple Street and Spring Street to prevent passing. Director Lakeman made the motion to approve establishing a "no passing" zone on Spring Street and Maple Street, seconded by City Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. There being no further business to come before the Board of Public Works and Safety, Director Lakeman made the motion to adjourn at 10:30 a.m., seconded by City Engineer Mlller,~d ca~.r~/imously.
