OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA
MONDAY JUNE 2,1997
Mayor Thomas R. Galligan called the meeting to order at 9:30 A.M., and
on call of the roll those members present were: Safety Director Harold
~ Lakeman,":and Planning and Developmen~ Dir~c~r~Jim~rba~. - -
Also present were: Street Commissioner George Trembly, Planning and
Development Director Jim Urban,City Engineer Bob Miller, City Attorney
Anne Marie Sedwick, Animal Shelter Director Jim Gillenwater, Parks
Sup~intendent Rick Elliott, Wastewater Treatment Plant Assistant
Director Scott Timmerman, Police Chief Mike Pavey, Fire Chief Mike
Smith, Vehicle and Maintenance Foreman Mike Ewton, and Clerk Lynne
Kempf.
Director Urban made ~he mOtion to approve the payrolls as presented,
seconded by Director Lakeman and carried unanimously.
Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the minutes as presented,
seconded by Director Urban and carried unanimously.
THREE-WAY STOP SIGN
Police Chief Pavey said he talked with Street Commissioner Trembly and
they agreed to put a stop sign at the corner of Slone and Hampton.
Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the three-way stop sign,
seconded by Director Urban and carried unanimously.
BIKE TRAIL
Terry Brunet of 2037 Cardinal Lane spoke in regards to an area behind

t~e Brune~ s~ i Direct~Or 'Urban said in i~984 an easemeh~ ~as :giVen for
along the backside of Cardinal Lane to wo6dl~hd~ 'C66r~'. She 'also
voiced concern about the bike trail and it's upkeep. After much
discussion, Mayor Gatligan said this would be taken under advisement
for another meeting.
CITATIONS
Director Urban reported that Arthur Murphy, who resides on Ivanhoe was
cited for failure to cut his grass. Mayor Galligan said if the grass
isn't cut, the city will cut it and bill Mr. Murphy for it. Director
Urban made the motion to continue to monitor his grass and to bill him
if it isn't maintained, seconded by Director Lakeman and carried
unanimously.

1016 LOCUST STREET
Hattie Huff-Malone and Hattie Young were cited for failure to maintain
a property at i016 Locust Street. Grasscuttlng and overall house
maintenance needs to be done. Director Lakeman made the motion to
grant them 60 days to start to bring the house up to standard
significantly, s~conded by Director Urban and carried unanimously.
300 KNOBLOCH
Douglas Mead0r was cited for d~bris piled up in his yard. A certified
letter will be sent to the Meadors stating that the next time the city
has to maintain their property they will be billed for the cost.
Director Lakeman made the motion to send the Meadors a certified
letter, seconded by Director Urban and. ca,tied un~Qi~ouslY'
626 E. MAPLE STREET
Rodney and Judy Swartz were cited for failure to make necessary
repairs to their property. Director Urban said gutters need to be
repaired, windows and doors need repairing and various other items.
Director Lakeman made the motion to give the Swartz's 30 days to make
the necessary re~ai~s, seconded by Director Urban and carried
unanimously.
1100 SPORTSMAN DRIVE
Pete Newsome of 1100 Sportsman Drive was cited for having open
storage, lack of gutters, and grass not being cut. Director Urban
made the. motion to give him 14 days to make.the necgssary repairs,
seconded by citY Engineer Bob Miiier (filling in for Director Lakeman)
and carried unanimously.
NO OUTLET SiCN
Tom Popp of Nole Drive requested a "No Outlet" sign for his street out
of concern over the amount of traffic there. He also inquired about a
construction road and City Attorney Sedwick recommended that he
contact his developer concerning this.
PERSONNEL MATTERS
Police Chief Pavey requested 'pe~i~si~n t6'-pr6~6te ~h~'follo~ng
officers: Lieutenant Jim Cox to the rank of Captain, Detective
Sergeant Kelly Harrod to the rank of Lieutenant, Lieutenant Jim Craig
to the rank of Captain and Sergeant Thomas Gavin to the rank of
Lieutenant. Director Urban made the motion to approve the promotions,
seconded by City Engineer Miller and carried unanimously.

VIOLATION NOTICES
Wastewater Treatment Plant Assistant Scott Timmerman reported on two
industrial violations. (notice attached) The violations were given to
Wyandot Inc. and Custom Plating. Director Urban made the motion to
approve and ratify the violation notices, seconded by City Engineer
Miller and carried unanimously.
HANDICAPPED PARKING SIGN
James G. Wilson of 808 Meigs Avenue requested a handicapped parking
sign in front of his home. Police Chief Pavey said he would check the
location and report back to the Board.
There being no further business to come before the Board of Public
Works and Safety, City Engineer Miller made the motion to adjourn at
10:30 a.m., seconded by Di rector Urba~ry~oRoR~ r~~.
