HomeMy WebLinkAbout2001-R-26RESOLUTION NO. - RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF TIlE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA SUPPORTING THE TRANSFERENCE OF LAND AT THE CHARLESTOWN AMMUNITION PLANT BY THE U.S. ARMY TO THE INDIANA DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Jeffersonville, Indiana recognizes the Charlestown State Park is an exceptional asset to this region, and WI~REAS, Director Larry Macklin and the Indiana: Dep~ent ofNatura! Resoume.~ has done an outstanding job of developing this asset, and WItEREAS, in 1998, our Congressional delegation of Senators Richard Lugar and Dan Coats, and Congressman Lee Hamilton obtained legislation calling for the transfer of certain acreage situated inside the Chartestown Ammunition Plant (INAAP) by the Army to the Indiana Department of Nataral Resources for use as a part of the Charlestown State Park, and WHEREAS, it has been over three (3) years since Congress passed this legislation and it appears that this transfer to the state park system has been unnecessarily delayed, NOW THE~FORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Jeffersonville, Indiana urges the U.S. Army and our Congressional delegation to take whatever steps necessary to complete the transference of land referred to in the 1998 legislation mentioned above.
