HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-06-1997Mayor Thomas on call of the Harold Lakeman, MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA MONDAY JANUARY 6,199~ Galligan called the meeting to order at 9:30 A.M., an~ roll those members present were: Personnel Dlrect0r ~ and Safety Director Anthony Harrod. Also present were: Street Commissioner George Trembly, City Engine~r Bob Miller, City Attorney Anne Marie Sedwick, Sewage Office Manager Bob Goldman, Planning and Development Director Jim Urban, Parks Superintendent Rick Elliott~ Animal Shelter Director Jim Gillenwater,Vehicle Maintenance Foreman Mike Ewton, Wastewater Treatment Plant Manager Kendall Coleman,Wastewater Treatment Plant Assistant Director Scott Timmerman, Police Chief Mike Pavey, Fire Chief Mike Smith, and Clerk Lynne Kempf. Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the minutes of the meeting of December 23,1996 and December 30 as presented, seconded by Director Harrod, and carried unanimously. Director Harrod made the motion to approve the claims as presented, seconded by Director Lakeman and carried' unanimously. 3011 SHERMAN DRIVE Chief Pavey checked Eastgate Subdivision and recommended putting a Children at Play sign at the entrance to McArthur off of Hwy. 62 and another one at Brian Drive. Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the signs, seconded by Director Harrod and carried unanimously. RESIDENT PARKING SIGN Police Chief Pavey checked out the parking situation at 209 W. Market Street and recommended a Resident Only parking sign for Joann Blake. Director Harrod made the motion to approve the sign, seconded by Director Lakeman and carried unanimously. 21ST CENTURY SCHOLARS Gwen Talbot spoke in reference to the 21st Century Scholars and their involvement in community service projects. One of their projects is Martin Luther King day. Curtis Wells, who works with 21st Century ~-- Scholars said that on beginning at in honor of t o approve 'unanimously. the evening of January 20th at 6:00 p.m., the Ken Ellis Building, there will be a Candlelight March Martin Luther King Day. Director Harrod made the motion the March, seconded by Director Lakeman and carried PAGE 2 JANUARY 6, 1997 RESOLUTION-SEWAGE SALARIES City Attorney Sedwick asked for approval of BPW Resolution 97-R-1. Director Harrod made the motion to approve the resolution, seconded by Director Lakeman and carried unanimously. PERSONNEL MATTERS-FIRE DEPARTMENT Fire Chief Smith reported that Lieutenant John Leach will be demoted to Sargeant and Sargeant Rlcky Cooper will be promoted to Lieutenant,effective January 16th, 1997. Director Harrod made the motion to approve the demotion and promotion, seconded by Director Lakeman and carried unanimously. NO PARKING SIGNS Street Commissioner Trembly said that residents along Plank Road on the north side are parking on the road and tearing up the right of way. Be requested No Parking signs for this area. Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the signs, seconded by Director Harrod and carried unanimously. PAY RAISE Street Commissioner Trembly requested a 25 cent per hour raise for Mark Hollon. He has attained his CDL license. Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the pay raise, seconded by Director Harrod and carried unanimously. ASPHALT AND FUEL BIDS Bids were received from Sellersburg Stone, Gohman Asphalt, K and I, Asphalt Supply~ and Liter's Quarry. A bid was also received from Makowsky Oll. All bids are being taken under advisement. Director Lakeman made the motion to take all bids under advisement, seconded by Director Harrod and carried unanimously. ANIMAL SHELTER Animal Shelter Director Jim Gillenwater asked for a raise per hour for part time employees. City Attorney Sedwlck said this would need to be taken to the City Council. DUMPSTERS REQUESTED Nellie Nolan requested dumpsters instead of regular trash cans at the apartments near her home. Mayor Galllgan said he would have this looked in to.
