JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA MONDAY, MAY 18, 1998
Mayor Galligan called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m., and on call of the roll those members
present were: City Engineer Bob Miller, and Planning and Development Director Jim Urban.
Also present were: Vehicle Maintenance Foreman Mike Ewton, Sewage Office Manager Bob
Goldman, Kevin Wright of EMC, Fire Chief Mike Smith, Street Commissioner Bobby Ervin,
Animal Shelter Manager Rick Broy, Building Commissioner Larry Decker,Parks Director Rick
Elliott, City Attorney Anne Made Galligan and Clerk Lyrme Kempf.
City Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the payroll as presented, seconded by Director
Urban and carded unanimously.
Director Urban made the motion to approve the minutes as presented, seconded by City Engineer
Miller, and canied unanimously.
SEWAGE BILL REIMBURSEMENT
Jennifer Riley of 317 Mary Street requested the Board to approve her being reimbursed $430.00
for sewer bills she paid because she thought she was hooked into the sewer system when she
purchased her house. Director Urban made the motion to approve reimbursing her, seconded by
City Engineer Miller and carried unanimously.
BUTTONWOOD ISLANDS
Dr. and Mrs. Prentice appeared before the Board again in regards to the islands in Buttonwood.
They say the islands were appproved and they shouldn't be asked to remove them. City Attorney
Galligan said the recorded plat doesn't show the islands and therefore were put in unapproved.
Tom Popp, a resident in Buttonwood spoke in favor of the islands. Judy Leist, a school bus
driver spoke against the islands because they are hard to get around. Mayor Galligan said that
safety and accessibility are the most important issues. After much discussion, Mayor Galligan
recommended tabling this for one week in order to do some more research. Director Urban made
the motion to table until next week, seconded by City Engineer Miller and carded unanimously.
BID OPENING-TRI-AXLE DUMP TRUCK
City Attorney Galligan opened sealed bids for a Tri-Axle Dump Track..They are as follows:
Peterbilt Inc.- $88,358.00
Uhl Truck Sales-S75,375.48
Director Urban made the motion to table the bids for one week so Street Commissioner Ervin
can look over them, seconded by City Engineer Miller and carried unanimously.
PETITION TO VACATE PORTION OF BROADWAY
Attorney Susan LeMay, representing Steve Kempf, reported to the Board Mr. Kempf's intentions
to ask the City Council to approve vacating a portion of property on Broadway for development
of property Mr. Kempf owns. The Board of Public Works said they had no problem with this
request.
206 MARTIN CIRCLE
Eddie Green, a resident of 206 Martin Circle requested a Resident Only parking sign at that
location. Director Urban made the motion to approve the Resident Only parking sign, seconded
by City Engineer Miller and carded unanimously.
1997 INVENTORY REPORT
Kevin Wright of EMC presented to the Board the 1997 Inventory Book and also asked approval
to replace all 4 Return Activated Sludge pumps at an estimated cost of $40,000.00. Two quotes
were received. They were:
The Henry P. Thompson Co.- $41,440.00
Straeffer Pump and Supply, Inc.- 49,756.00
Director Urban made the motion to approve the Henry P. Thompson quote of $41,440.00,
seconded by City Engineer Miller and carried unanimously.
CRUSADE FOR CHILDREN
Fire Chief Mike Smith presented the Board with a list of 1998 roadblocks for the Crusade For
Children. (attached) City Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the roadblocks, seconded
by Director Urban and carried unanimously.
OMNI ENGINEERING
Last week, Brian Dixon of Omni Engineering had requested the Board's approval of a 3rd
contract to do construction observation. City Attorney Galligan has looked over the contract and
has no problem with it. Director Urban made the motion to approve the construction observation
contract, seconded by City Engineer Miller and carded unanimously.
There being no further business to come before the Board of Public Works and Safety, Director
Urban made the motion to adjourn at 10:20 a.m., seconded by City Engineer Miller and carded
unanimously.
