JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA MONDAY, MAY 11, 1998
Planning and Development Director Urban in Mayor Galligan's absence called the meeting to
order at 9:30 a.m., and on call of the roll those members present were: City Engineer Bob
Miller, and Sewage Office Manager Bob Goldman, sitting in for Director Urban.
Also present were: Vehicle Maintenance Foreman Mike Ewton, Sewage Office Manager Bob
Goldman, Wastewater Treatment Plant Assistant Director Scott Timmerman, Fire Chief Mike
Smith, Building Commissioner Larry Decker, Parks Director Rick Elliott, Police Chief Mike
Pavey, Dockmaster Ken Morris, Street Commissioner Bobby Ervin,and Clerk Lynne Kempf.
City Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the payroll as presented, seconded by Sewage
Office Manager Goldman and carded unanimously.

LOUISE STREET BIDS
John Toombs of Jacobi, Toombs, and Lanz opened sealed bids for curb and gutter installation
between Louise and Center Streets and bids for the preparation and finishing of the project. They
are as follows:

SOUTHERN iN. EXCAVATING CORP.-Curb & gutter installation $27,144.00
Preparation & finish proj. $49,010.00
Mr. Toombs recommended that the Board award the bid to Southern Indiana Excavating Corp.
for $27,144.00 to install the concrete curb and gutter on the Louise Street project. City Engineer
Miller made the motion to approve the bid of $27,144.00, seconded by Sewage Office Manager
Goldman and carried unanimously.
Mr. Toombs also recommended that the Board award Southern Indiana Excavating Corp. with
the bid to prepare and finish the Louise Street project for $4%010.00. City Engineer Miller made
the motion to accept the bid of Southern Ind. Excavating Corp. in the amount of $49,010.00 to
prepare and finish the Louise St. project, seconded by Sewage Office Manager Goldman and
carded unanimously.
ANNEXATION OF AREA 5 SEWERS
John Toombs of Jacobi, Toombs, and Lanz said that since certain areas in the city have been
annexed that sanitary sewers are required and his firm has been working on the design for
months. He said as part of the State Revolving Loan Fund process to borrow money at a low
interest rate, there must be a contract for that work. He had 3 contracts for the sanitary sewer
extensions for Area 5. City Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the contract with Jaeobi,
Toombs, and Lanz to do the sanitary sewers planned, seconded by Sewage Office Manager
Goldman and carried unanimously.
REQUEST FOR OFFICE TRAILER
Reggie Howell of the Caledonian Co.(a pallet recycling business) at 1276 Dutch Lane requested
the Boards approval to put an office trailer at his business location. Director Urban told Mr.
Howell that he needs approval from the Board of Zoning Appeals on this before he can get
approval from the Board of Public Works. Fire Chief Smith asked that for the record his
suggestion would be to approve the trailer location for a limited time contingent upon the area
being cleaned up. He said it's very hard to get tracks back there in case of fire and is an eyesore.
BLASTING PERMIT
Ben Jones of Mac Construction requested a blasting permit for work being performed at the
location for the new Meijer store. City Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the blasting
permit, seconded by Sewage Office Manager Goldman and carded unanimously. City Engineer
Miller told Mr. Jones he would like to be present for the first charge.
OMNI ENGINEERING
Brian Dixon of Omni Engineering spoke in regards to the construction observation contract. He
asked the Boards approval of a third contract to do construction observation so the first two
projects can be closed out. Sewage Office Manager Goldman made the motion to table this until
next week when City Attorney Galligan rems, seconded by City Engineer Miller and carded
unanimously.
CITY SEWER PROBLEM
Jennifer Riley of 317 Mary Street said 4 years ago she and her husband purchased the house at
317 Mary Street under the assumption that the house was hooked into the city sewer system. She
has discovered it is not after having paid $400.00 in sewer bills, which she would like a
reimbursement on. City Engineer Miller made the motion to table this until next week to check
with City Attorney Galligan, seconded by Sewage Office Manager Goldman and carried
unanimously.
LEUKEMIA SOCIETY
Susan Lawrence came before the Board requesting to hold two more roadblocks on May 13th
from 3-6 p.m. One will be at 8th and Main and one at the intersection by Ice Cream Willie's.
Sewage Office Manager Goldman made the motion to approve the roadblocks, seconded by City
Engineer Miller and carried unanimously.
PROMOTIONS
Police Chief pavey presented to the Board a list of promotions for approval (attached) City
Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the promotions, seconded by Sewage Office
Manager Goldman and carded unanimously.
STREET LIGHTS
City Engineer Miller made the motion to approve a street light at Loop Road and a light at Port
Road in the Clark Maritime Centre and 4 lights in Foxboro Four, seconded by Sewage Office
Manager Goldman and carded unanimously.
1996 ANNUAL INVENTORY REPORT
Wastewater Treatment Plant Assistant Director Timmerman presented the 1996 Inventory
Report. He said there's an Amperometric Titration from the old plant that is no good and wants
permission to take it offthe inventory report. Sewage Office Manager Goldman made the
motion to give Dir. Timmerman the authority to sell the piece of equipment and delete from the
inventory, seconded by City Engineer Miller and carried unanimously.
CHAS. N.A. PIKE
City Engineer Miller stated for the record that he and Jorge Lanz of Jacobi, Toombs, and Lanz
are working on the stop light/intersection problem on Chas. N.A. Pike.
There being no further business to come before the Board of Public WOrks and Safety, Sewage
Office Manager Bob Goldman made the motion to adjourn at 10:20 a.m., seconded by City
Engineer Miller and carried unanimously.
