HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-13-1998MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA MONDAY, APRIL 13, 1998. Mayor Thomas R. Galligan called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. and on call of the roll those members present were:City Engineer Bob Miller and Sewage Office Manager Bob Goldman sitting in for Director Urban. Also present were: Parks Director Rick Elliott, Police Chief Mike Pavey, Vehicle Maintenance Foreman Mike Ewton, Animal Shelter Manager Rick Broy,Building Commissioner Larry Decker, Fire Chief Mike Smith, Wastewater Treatment Plant Asst. Director Scott Timmerman, Kevin Wright of EMC,City Attorney Anne Marie Galligan and Clerk Lynne Kempf. City Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the payroll as presented, seconded by Sewage Office Manager Goldman and carried unanimously. Sewage Office Manager Goldman made the motion to approve the minutes of 4-6-98 as presented, seconded by City Engineer Miller and carded unanimously. RESIDENT PARKING Sewage Office Manager Bob Goldman made the motion to approve a resident parking sign at 714 E. Maple Street, seconded by City Engineer Miller and carded unanimously. HAMBURG PIKE AND CHAS. N.A. PIKE City Engineer Miller spoke in regards to the traffic light at Hamburg Pike and Chas. N.A. Pk. He said he's getting a lot of complaints about it slowing down traffic. Mayor Galligan wants a police officer out there to check the traffic flow and report back to the board next week. CITATION Building Commissioner Decker said that on March 27, 1998 he cited Vickie Hurst to take care of various repairs to her property in Northaven. He recommends fining her $500.00.City Attorney Galligan said she would contact Ms. Hurst's attorney on this matter. ROADBLOCK Susan Lawrence asked the Board's approval to hold a roadblock for leukemia on April 17th from 3-6 p.m. at Main and Market Street and by Ice Cream Willie's. Sewage Office Manager Goldman made the motion to approve the roadblock, seconded by City Engineer Miller and carded unanimously. BONAR City Attorney Galligan recommended that the Board approve the contract for engineering services by Bonar. City Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the contract, seconded by Sewage Office Manager Goldman and carried unanimously. LOAD1NGZONE City Attorney Galligan recommended that the Board revoke all Loading Zones on Spring Street. City Engineer Miller made the motion to approve revoking the Loading Zones, seconded by Sewage Office Manager Goldman and carded unanimously. SPR1NG ST. LIFT STATION Kevin Wright of EMC spoke in regards to rebuilding and repairing the pumps at the Spring Street lift station for approximately $7,500.00. Sewage Office Manager Goldman made the motion to approve the repair, seconded by City Engineer Miller and carded unanimously. HIRING Police Chief Pavey recommended hiring Brian Mitchell for the position of police officer to start on April 15, 1998. City Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the hiring of Brian Mitchell, seconded by Sewage Office Manager Goldman and carried unanimously. There being no further business to come before the Board of Public Works and Safety, City Engineer Miller made the motion to adjourn at 10:30 a.m., seconded by Sewage Office Manager Goldman and carded unanimously. This vacancy is an existing position caused by a retirement. I am recommending the hiring of Brian Kent Mitchell for the police officer opening. Mr. Mitchell has passed the written, psychological, physical, physical agility and background investigation. He is currently a sworn police officer with the Clark County Sheriff Office. He has held that position for 3 years. I am requesting a start date of April 15, 1998. I believe that Mr. Mitchell Will be an excellent addition to our department.
