JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA MONDAY, FEBRUARY 2, 1998.
Mayor Thomas R. Galligan called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m., and on call of the roll those
members present were: City Engineer Bob Miller, and Planning and Development Director Jim
Urban.
Also present were: Building Commissioner Pinkston, Parks Director Rick Elliott, Captain
Danny Rodden, Street Commisssioner Bobby Ervin, Vehicle Maintenance Foreman Mike Ewton,
Sewage Office Manager Bob Goldman, Wastewater Treatment Plant Assistant Director Scott
Timmerman, Animal Shelter Director Jim Gillenwater, Safety Director George Trembly, Fire
Chief Mike Smith, Police Chief Mike Pavey, and Clerk Lynne Kempf.
TRAFFIC PROBLEM
Umang Bhatt who resides in Buttonwood Subdivision spoke in regards to an island in the street
in front of his house that is partially blocking his driveway. Mayor Galligan said Mr. Prentice
would be talked to about this problem.
HANDICAPPED PARKING REQUEST
Marlene Hawk of 911 E. 7th Street requested a handicapped parking sign in front of her house
for her husband who is handicapped. Director Urban made the motion to approve the
handicapped parking sign, seconded by City Engineer Miller and carded unanimously.
HANDICAPPED PARKING
Jay Ellis requested a handicapped parking sign in front of the LaRose Building. Director Urban
made the motion to approve a handicapped parking sign there, seconded by City Engineer Miller
and carried unanimously.
CITATION
An attorney representing the Hurst's of 1333 Ridgeway Drive spoke in regards to the citation
they received. He said that two cars have been removed, trees have been cut back, leaves cleaned
up, and estimates have been gotten on the gutter repairs. He said all the repairs should be
completed soon.
NPDES PERMIT FEE
Wastewater Treatment Plant Assistant Director Scott Timmerman submitted the annual NPDES
permit. The fee is $11,500.00. Director Urban made the motion to approve the fee orS11,500.00,
seconded by City Engineer Miller and carded unanimously.
EMPLOYEE HIRING
Police Captain Rodden requested the Board's approval to hire 2 new employees. They are Daniel
Lawhom and Jason VanGilder. City Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the hiring of 2
new employees, seconded by Director Urban and carded unanimously.
VACATION OF PROPERTY
City Engineer Miller made the motion to vacate property at Tenth and Plank Road, seconded by
Director Urban and carded unanimously. (map attached)
PAY RAISE
City Engineer Miller made the motion to raise the pay from $8100 an hour to $10.00 per hour for
one of his laborers who is doing an excellent job, seconded by Director Urban and carded
unanimously.
ETHICS
Ethics forms were distributed to the department heads to be filled out and returned by Monday,
February 9, 1998.
.HIGH LIFT BID
One bid was received on the 953 C High Lift. The bid was from Whayne Supply in the amount
of $135,399.00. The appropriate forms were included. Director Urban made the motion to take
this bid under advisement, seconded by City Engineer Miller and carried unanimously.
ESTOPINAL CONTRACT
Animal Shelter Director Gillenwater asked the Board to approve the contract from the Estopinai
Group for services rendered in the amount of $17,500.00. City Engineer Miller made the motion
to approve the contract, seconded by Director Urban and carded unanimously.
CITATIONS
Kevin Abrahamson who owns property at 639 Main Street who has been previously cited has
requested an extension through his attorney, Mr. John Vissing to repair his house.
Building Commissioner Pinkston said Richard Wessling of 1525 Ellwanger has a fence on an
easement. An estimate is being acquired to remove the fence from the easement from Street
Commissioner Ervin.
GREASE TRAPS
Building Commissioner Pinkston reported that 23 grease trap inspections have been done.
There being no further business to come before the Board of Public Works and Safety, Director
Urban made the motion to adjourn at 10:45 a.m., seconed by City Engineer Miller and carried
unanimously.
