JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA MONDAy, NOVEMBER 15, 1999
In Mayor Galligan's absence, Bob Goldman called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m., and on call
of the roll those members present were: ChiefPavey sitting in for Sewage Office Manager Bob
Goldman and City Engineer Bob Miller.
Also present were: Fire Chief Mike Smith, Building Commissioner Larry Decker, Planning and
Development Director Jana Ecker, Personnel Director Ellis, Officer Rodden, Animal Control
Officer Henderson, Wastewater Treatment Plant Director Traylor, Assistant Director of
Redevelopment Duggins, City Attorney Galligan, and clerk Lynne Mayfield.
Engiheer Miller made the motion to approve the payroll as presented, seconded by Engineer
Miller and carded unanimously.
SPEED LIMIT SIGNS
Colley Hart of 1117 Highland Drive told the Board that there are no speed limit signs on
Highland Drive. and it is very dangerous for children in the neighborhood. Manager Goldman
said this would be checked out.
MISTLETOE SALES
Ron Long asked the Board's permission to again sell mistletoe at the Court Avenue ramp.
Engineer Miller made the motion to approve Ron Long selling mistletoe, seconded by Manager
Goldman and carried unanimously.
MARTIN LUTHER KING MARCH
Saundra Johnson, who is on the Martin Luther King committee asked the Board's approval for a
Martin Luther King march on January 7, 2000. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the
January 7, 2000 march, seconded by Manager Goldman and carded unanimously.
PURCHASE OF BORING MACHINE
Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the purchase of a Boring machine and bits for the
sewer department for $3,000.00, seconded by Chief Pavey and carried unanimously.
SEWER EQUIPMENT
Engineer Miller said EMC has run into the problem of not having the appropriate tools to clean
the sewers on weekends and off time. Engineer Miller said he has a root cutter if EMC wants to
take the job over. Miller said his men aren't on call on weekends or off times. Wastewater
Treatment Plant Director Traylor asked Miller for either access to the root cutter or possession of
it for weekends and off times. Engineer Miller said Traylor would have access to the root cutter.
PUBLIC HEARING-ANIMAL SHELTER PROPERTY
Attorney Galligan asked if anyone was in attendance for public heating concerning the proposed
sale of a 2 acre parcel of land that is currently owned by the Animal Shelter. A notice of this
public heating was published in the Evening News on 10-30-99. (Publ. Aff. is attached to these
minutes). It is to be sold to the Louisville Indiana R.R. for $50,000.00. The City Council has
already approved the sale. Heating no public comment, Engineer Miller made the motion to
approve the sale of the 2 acre parcel to the Louisville Indiana R.R. for $50,000.00, seconded by
Chief Pavey and carried unanimously.
STREET LIGHT
Animal Control Officer Henderson requested a street light by the Animal Shelter. City Engineer
Miller said he would look into it.
WILLINGER LANE
Engineer Miller said a lady has called him numerous times asking for 15 m.p.h, speed limit signs
to be installed on Willinger Lane. Engineer Miller has spoken with Animal Shelter Manager Jim
Gillenwater about this and he has cautioned all his people to drive slowly through there. Engineer
Miller doesn't think we need the signs. Chie£Pavey said he would put patrols there.
There being no further business to come before the Board of Public Works and Safety, Engineer
Miller made the motion to adjourn at 10:10 a.m., seconded by Chief Pavey and carried
unanimously.
