HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-25-1999MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA MONDAY, OCTOBER 25, 1999 Mayor Galligan called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m., and on call of the roll those members present were: Sewage Office Manager Bob Goldman and City Engineer Bob Miller. Also present were: Fire Chief Mike Smith, Building Commissioner Larry Decker, Plarming and Development Director Jana Ecker, Personnel Director Ellis, Officer Rodden, Animal Control Officer Henderson, Wastewater Treatment Plant Director Traylor, Assistant Director of Redevelopment Duggins, Police Chief Mike Pavey, Parks and Recreation Superintendent Rick Elliott, Street Commissioner Marvin Grant, City Attomey Galligan, and Clerk Barbara Hollis. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the payroll as presented, seconded by Manager Goldman and carded unanimously. BID OPENING Mr. John Toombs of Jacobi, Toombs, and Lanz, opened the bid From American for the Thompson Lane Sewer Project. The amount of the bid is $139,643.60. Mr. Toombs said seven sets of plans were picked up however this is the only bid received. Manager Goldman made the motion to take the bid under advisement for one week, seconded by Engineer Miller and carded unanimously. REQUEST FOR HANDICAP PARKING Mr. Thomas Rooney, a resident at 424 East Market Street, appeared before the Board to request a handicap parking spot and to call attention to the visibility problem at the intersection at this address. Manager Goldman made the motion to erect the handicap parking area, seconded by Engineer Miller and carded unanimously. The police will check the parking in the area. UTICA-SELLERSBURG ROAD BIDS Attorney Galligan presented the bids previously opened for the Utica-Sellersburg Road Project announcing the low bid is from Koetter at $181,178.60. Engineer Miller made the motion to award the bid to Koetter, conditional upon changes, seconded by Manager Goldman, passing unanimously. MINI-EXCAVATOR QUOTES Attorney Galligan presented the following quotes for a mini-excavator: Hunt Tractor $47,985 excluding bucket; Brandeis $46,500 including 26" bucket; Competition Equipment $43,490 including 24" bucket. Engineer Miller made the motion to take the quotes under advisement, seconded by Manager Goldman, and carried unanimously. NEW EMPLOYEE Police Chief Mike Pavey recommends the hiring of Greg Summler as a Police Officer effective October 26, 1999. Manager Goldman made the motion to hire Greg Summler as a Police Officer, seconded by Engineer Miller, passing unanimously. ANIMAL SHELTER OPEN HOUSE Mayor Galligan announced an open house will be held at the new animal shelter, Wednesday, October 27, 1999 at 4i00 P.M. FINANCING APPROVAL Attorney Galligan recommends approval of the leasing of an asphalt roller through Whayne Supply Company for 9 months interest flee at $3,000 per month with 100% applied to purchase. Manager Goldman made the morion to approve the financing, seconded by Engineer Miller, passing unanimously. STREET LIGHT APPROVAL Engineer Miller recommended new street lights at 2108 Hamburg Pike and 43 Arctic Springs. Engineer Miller then made the motion to approve the new lights, seconded by Manager Goldman, and carded unanimously. STREET LIGHTS REPORTED OUT Ms. Nellie Knowland reported the street lights were out at 10 P.M. on 10th and Spring. These will be checked. SPRING STREET LIGHTS Mayor Galligan reported some of the new lights on Spring Street are on. More will be turned on this week. There is a concern for some of the wiring which will be checked. MILLING AND PAVING Mayor Galligan said Dutch Lane is being milled and will be paved. There being no further business to come before the Board of Public Works and Safety, Engineer Miller made the motion to adjourn at 10:15 A.M.., seconded by Manager Goldman and carried unanimously.
