JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 7, 1999
Mayor Galligan called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m., and on call of the roll those members
present were: City Engineer Bob Miller, and Sewage Office Manager Bob Goldman.
Also present were: Fire Chief Mike Smith, Building Commissioner Larry Decker, Wastewater
Treatment Plant Director Traylor, Personnel Director Ellis, Safety Director Grant, Animal
Control Officer Henderson, Parks Supt. Elliiott, Police Chief Pavey, Assistant Director of
Redevelopment Duggins, and Clerk Lynne Mayfield.
PARKING PROBLEM
Tom Smith with American Liberty Financial of 600 Kentucky Avenue told the Board that people
are parking in front of his business leaving no parking spaces for his customers. Manager
Goldman made the motion to approve 2 hour parking signs to be installed on Kentucky Avenue,
seconded by Engineer Miller and carded unanimously.
ALLEY PURCHASE REQUEST
Jennifer Vezner who resides at 1110 E. 9th Street told the Board she would like to purchase and
pave the alley behind her house and build a garage. She said the alley is in poor shape. Mayor
Galligan said there is no problem with paving the alley but the alley can't be sold to one person.
Mayor Galligan said the alley could be vacated and then the alley within her property line would
belong to her. She could then talk with the adjacent property owners about purchasing their part
of the alley. Ms. Vezner also asked for a "no parking" sign. Mayor Galligan said there would be
no problem getting her a '~no parking" sign.
SEWER CONTRACT
Jorge Lar~ of Jacobi, Toombs, and Lanz said he has received approval of the preliminary
engineering report for the 8th St., Graham St. and Area 5 Evergreen Subdivision and requests
approval to proceed. He also requested that the contract for Mark Sneed who is the new
Wastewater Treatment Plant Engineer be approved. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve
the 8th St., Graham Street, and Area 5 Evergreen Subdivision contracts and the contract for Mark
Sneed, seconded by Manager Goldman and carried unanimously.
TAXI SERVICE
Planning and Development Director Ecker said she had received a complaint about Dan Burkhart
of 1522 Lyndale Drive for operating a taxi service from his residence. Director Ecker said Mr.
Burkhart does have a taxi license and the operation of his taxi business fits the criteria for a
"Home Occupation" in the Zoning Ordinance. He is now parking his taxi's in his driveway
instead of on the street. After some discussion, Mayor Galligan said nothing will be done as long
as there are no more complaints.
ELECTRIC PANELS
Wastewater Treatment Plant Director Traylor requested the Board approve paying for the
replacement of the sludge press electrical panels in the amount of $1,015.50 from the repair and
replacement fund. Manager Goldman made the motion to approve replacing the sludge press
elecrical panels in the amount of $1,015.50, seconded by Engineer Miller and carried
unanimously.
ALARM SYSTEM AND PROCESS CONTROL SYSTEM IMPROVEMENTS
Wastewater Treatment Plant Director Traylor requested and received an engineering service
agreement proposal from Donohue and Associates, Inc. The proposal is for design of
improvements to the city's existing Wastewater Treatment Plant Process Control System and
Pump Station Telemetry System in the amount of $50,600.00. Engineer Miller made the motion
to approve the agreement in the amount of $50,600.00, seconded by Manager Goldman and
carded unanimously.
HANDICAPPED PARKING
Willie Bostick of 807 Watt St. requested a handicapped parking sign. Engineer Miller made the
motion to approve the handicapped parking sign, seconded by Manager Goldman and carried
unanimously.
STOP LIGHT
Mayor Galligan told Engineer Miller to erect a stop sign in Cherokee Heights on Bennett
Avenue.
There being no further business to come before the Board of Public Works and Safety, Engineer
Miller made the motion to adjourn at
unanimously.
