HomeMy WebLinkAbout08-02-1999MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA MONDAY, AUGUST 2, 1999 Mayor Galligan called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m., and on call of the roll those members present were: City Engineer Bob Miller, and SeWage Office Manager Bob Goldman. Also present were: Fire Chief Mike Smith, Street Commissioner Bobby Ervin, Building Commissioner Larry Decker, Wastewater Treatment Plant Director Traylor, Personnel Director Ellis, Planning and Development Director Jana Ecker, Safety Director Grant, Animal Control Officer Henderson, Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor Ewton, Parks Secretary Langdon, Police Chief Pavey, Assistant Director of Redevelopment Duggins, City Attorney Gailigan, and Clerk Lynne Kempf. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the minutes of 7-12-99 and 7-19-99 as presented, seconded by Manager Goldman and carried unanimously. STEAMBOAT DAYS Mayor Galligan said that Steamboat Days will be held on Court Avenue this year. Jack Alexander of the Steamboat Committee presented a map showing the location and street closings for the event. He said generators will be used for electric. QUOTE OPENING Jorge Lanz of Jacobi, Toombs, and Lanz opened quotes on the sewer work for Rocky's Restaurant. They are: Excel at $47,461.20, L.D. Rice at $68,650.00, and Mac Construction at $26,085.00. Manager Goldman made the motion to take the quotes under advisement for one week, seconded by Engineer Miller and carded unanimously. OPTIMIST CLUB Mr. Cunningham, the President of the Optimist Club appeared before the Board because of concern of unfavorable publicity by a letter to the newspaper in regard to a recent incident at the club. After some discussion, Attorney Galligan recommended that in the furore when renting out the club, the renter should be made aware of the indemnifying clause on the rental agreement. Mayor Galligan said a letter would be written to the newspaper regarding the Optimist Club and the incident. MEADOWLARK QUOTE OPENING City Attorney Galligan opened quotes for the stoplight at Meadowlark and Allison Lane. They were: Metzger Electric $58,902.00 and Signal Construction $64,200.00. Engineer Miller made the motion to take the quotes under advisement for one week, seconded by Manager Goldman and carried unanimously. LITER'S QUARRY Councilman Ron Ellis spoke to the Board in regard to the increase of dust from Liter's Quarry onto Hamburg Pike. After much discussion, it was decided to start billing the quma'y when the City has to wash down the street. Mayor Galligan instructed Chief Pavey to put a policeman at the entrance to the quarry and start giving tickets when the trucks leave the quarry without having been washed down and then sending the trucks back in to be washed down. BRIDGE CLOSING Police Chief Pavey said that Beth Kendall with the Shawnee Baptist Church informed him that the bridge will be closed between 1:30 and 2:00 p.m. on August 4, 1999. u There being no further business to come before the Board of Public Works and Safety, Engineer Miller made the motion to adjourn at 10:30 a.m., seconded by Manager Goldman and carded unanimously.
