JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA MONDAY, JULY 26, 1999
Mayor Galligan called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m., and on call of the roll those members
present were: City Engineer Bob Miller, and Sewage Office Manager Bob Goldman.
Also present were: Fire Chief Mike Smith, Building Commissioner Lan'y Decker, Wastewater
Treatment Plant Director Traylor, Parks Secretary Jackie Langdon, Street Commissioner Ervin,
Police Chief Pavey, Asst. Director of Redevelopment David Duggins, Personnel Director Ellis,
Animal Control Officer Henderson, Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor Ewtnn, Safety Director
Grant, Planning and Development Director Jana Ecker, City Attorney Anne Made Galligan, and
Clerk Lynne Kempf.
RIVERSIDE DRIVE SANITARY SEWER
Jorge Lanz of Jacobi, Toombs, and Lanz told the Board he had received two quotes on the
Riverside Drive Sanitary Sewers. He requested that the Board approve extending the bidding
period until next Monday. Mr. Lanz said he has learned of a newer way of installing the sewer
and would like the opportunity to get some quotes on that system. Manager Goldman made the
motion to approve extending the quote period one week, seconded by Engineer Miller and
carried unanimously.
PEDDLER PERMIT
Andrei Tonka asked the Boards approval to sell educational and child literature door to door.
Mayor Galligan said he would need to give the police department some information. Manager
Goldman made the motion to approve the peddler permit, seconded by Engineer Miller and
carried unanimously.
626 E. 7TH STREET
Claude Fulkerson, spoke on behalf of his mother who lives next to Tim Boley, who had a
petition signed to close the alley behind their houses. Mr. Fulkerson said his mother feels she
was intimidated into signing the petition and doesn't want the alley closed. Mr. Fulkerson read a
letter to the Board written by his mother stating why she doesn't want the alley closed. She said
that Major Miles of the Jeff Fire Dept. told her that closing this alley could also be a fire hazard
if trying to reach her house. Jack Whittinghill also voiced opposition to this alley being closed.
Mayor Galligan said this would be looked into.
STEAMBOAT DAYS
Melba Dogger of the YUMP Committee requested that the arts and crafts be located in Warder
Park for Steamboat Days. Mayor Galligan said he sees no problem with this.
PROMOTION AND HIRING
Police Chief Pavey requested approval to promote Kenny Kavanaugh to the rank of Corporal and
Robert McGhee to the rank of Corporal. Both are currently assigned to the Detective Division.
Chief Pavey also requested authority to hire Mindy Christian for a vacancy in
telecommunications. City Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the promotions of Kenny
Kavanaugh and Robert McGhee, and the hiring of Mindy Christian, seconded by Manager
Goldman and carded unanimously.
DOZER RENTAL CONTRACT
City Attorney Galligan recommended that the Board approve the 6 month rent-to-purchase
contract fi.om Whayne Supply for a dozer. Manager Goldman made the motion to approve the
rental/purchase contract of the dozer fi.om Whayne Supply, seconded by Engineer Miller and
carded unanimously.
STREET LIGHTS
Engineer Miller said a street light is needed in Arctic Springs and also some alleys around Pearl
Street. Engineer Miller made the motion to install the lights, seconded by Manager Goldman and
carded unanimously. Engineer Miller said lights are still being looked into for Walnut Ridge
Subdivision.

Fire Chief Smith thanked City Engineer Bob Miller for his help in getting an old tank to be used
for a test pit and he thanked Street Commissioner Bob Ervin for his help in getting the drive
striped at the Fire Station.
OMNI ENGINEERING
City Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the $10,000.00 Change Order to the Onmi
Engineering contract to change the force main to gravity along a portion of the Pleasant Run
interceptor near King Road, seconded by Manager Goldman and carded unanimously.
There being no further business to come before the Board of Public Works and Safety, Sewage
Office Manager Goldman made the motion to adjourn at 10:30 a.m., seconded by Engineer
Miller and carried unanimously.
