HomeMy WebLinkAbout07-19-1999MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA MONDAY, JULY 19, 1999 Mayor Galligan called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m., and on call of the roll those members present were: City Engineer Bob Miller, and Sewage Office Manager Bob Goldman. Also present were: Fire Chief Mike Smith, Street Commissioner Bobby Ervin, Building Commissioner Lan'y Decker, Wastewater Treatment Plant Director Traylor, Personnel Director Ellis, Planuing and Development Director Jana Ecker, Safety Director Grant, Police Detective Fleeman, Parks Superintendent Elliott, Grant Coordinator Haller, Assistant Director of Redevelopment Duggins, City Attorney Galligan, and Clerk Lyrme Kempf. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the minutes of 7-6-99 as presented, seconded by Manager Goldman and carded unanimously. PRESERVATION STATION PARKING LOT A request has been made to pave and line the parking lot at Preservation Station. City Engineer Miller said he will look into this. 2209 GLEN ABBY City Engineer Miller said a "No Outlet" sign was requested by Betty Ogden at 2209 Glen Abby. Manager Goldman made the motion to approve the "No Outlet" sign, seconded by Engineer Miller and carded unanimously. BRINLEY-HARDY NOTICE OF VIOLATION Wastewater Treatment Plant Director Traylor told the Board that on June 17th, 1999 Brinley-Hardy's oil and grease exceeded the limit. Brinley-Hardy is required to submit in writing a report stating why the exceedence occurred. Director Traylor recommmended that no penalty be imposed this time. Manager Goldman made the motion to approve the NOV with no penalty, seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. SPRING STREET LIGHTING Grant Programs Manager Hailer said she has been approached with concerns about inadequate lighting on Spring Street for Steamboat Days. Mayor Galligan said that with the construction that's going on, Spring Street will not be useable for Steamboat Days. Hailer said she would call the Steamboat Committee about the possibility of re-locating Steamboat Days this year. SEWER BACK-UP City Attomey Galligan spoke in regards to a request by Linda Smedburg for $50.00 reimbursement for cleanup caused by a sewer back-up. Attorney Galligan recommended reimbursing her $50.00. City Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the $50.00 reimbursement for cleanup, seconded by Manager Goldman and carded unanimously. Another request was made by Bertha Harris for $1,060.00 for damage done because of sewer back-up. City Attorney Galligan recommends that the Board require her to provide receipts of her damages. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve requiring receipts or evidence of damage, seconded by Manager Goldman and carried unanimously. RESIDENT PARKING Mayor Galligan asked the police department to check out 334 W. Maple Street for a resident only parking sign. REPAIR AND REPLACEMENT ROOT CONTROL Wastewater Treatment Plant Director Traylor asked the Board to approve paying $1,136.87 from the repair and replacement fund for sewer root control service on Chippewa Drive between Park Street and Market Street. City Engineer Miller made the motion to approve paying $1,136.87 from the repair and replacement fund for sewer root control service, seconded by Manager Goldman and carried unanimously. STREET LIGHTS Ruby Davis and Lou Casey, residents of Walnut Ridge Subdivision told the Board that more street lights are needed there. They said that things are being stolen from the backyards. Mayor Galligan said he would find out what lights are needed and take care of this. MIDDLE ROAD CLOSURE Engineer Miller said that Koetter Construction asked permission to close Middle Road at Port Road for approximately one and a half months, for construction work. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve closing Middle Road, seconded by Manager Goldman and carded unanimously. QUARRY City Attorney Galligan told the Board that the trucks coming out of the quarry are not being washed down to keep the dust down on Hamburg Pike. After some discussion, Mayor Galligan said something has to be done. He told Maintenance Supervisor Ewton to wash down a portion of Hamburg Pike and inform the quarry that this needs to be done on a regular basis. MAUSOLEUM Engineer Miller said Walnut Ridge Cemetary is going to build a mausoleum and ask permission to put in a temporary road off Hamburg Pike. Manager Goldman made the motion to approve a temporary entrance off Hamburg Pike, seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. There being no fmther business to come before the Board of Public Works and Safety, Engineer Miller made the motion to adjourn at 10:30 a.m., seconded by Manager Goldman and carried unanimously.
