HomeMy WebLinkAbout07-06-1999MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA MONDAY, JULY 6, 1999 Mayor Galligan called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m., and on call of the roll those members present were: City Engineer Bob Miller, and Sewage Office Manager Bob Goldman. Also present were: Fire Chief Mike Smith, Street Commissioner Bobby Ervin, Building Commissioner Larry Decker, Wastewater Treatment Plant Director Traylor, Personnel Director Ellis, Planning and Development Director Jana Ecker, Safety Director Palmer, Police Chief Pavey, Animal Control Officer Henderson, City Attorney Galligan, and Clerk Lynne Kempf. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the minutes of 6-14-99 as presented, seconded by Manager Goldman and carded unanimously. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the payroll as presented, seconded by Manager Goldman and carried unanimously. Manager Goldman made the motion to approve the sewage claims as presented, seconded by Engineer Miller and carded unanimously. WYANDOT City Attorney Galligan said several meetings have been held with Wyandot, Inc. to work out the details of a pre-treatment program. Wyandot has agreed to construct a pre-treatment facility at their plant which will be a great help to the City. The agreement calls for Wyandot to design and operate a pre-treatment system that meets the parameters outlined in the agreement. The anticipated construction completion is set for June of 2000. Manager Goldman made the motion to approve the contract with Wyandot and the City of Jeff to design, construct, and operate a pre-treatment facility at Wyandot's plant, seconded by Engineer Miller and carded unanimously. JEFF FEST Planning and Development Director Ecker announced that Jeff Fest is set for July 31 st from 11-8 p.m. She asked the police to bring their Ident-A-Child trailer, the fire dept. to bring the trucks and equipment, and the street commissioner to set up floodlights behind Carnegie Library. BID-CRAWLER City Attorney Galligan said that in review of the three Crawler bids received 6-28-99, only one complied with the proper forms, which was Whayne Supply. Attorney Galligan recommended that the Board accept the bid of Whayne Supply for $79,129.00. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve Whayne Supply's bid, seconded by Manager Goldman and carded unanimously. QUOTES-LOW BOY City Attorney Galligan said that three quotes were received for a Low Boy. Only two of the quotes met the specifications. They were : APEX Trailer for $33,815.00, Chuck Mason Equipment Sales for $39,900.00, and Whayne Supply which did not meet the specifications for $32,543.00. Manager Goldman made the motion to approve the bid of APEX Trailer and Truck, seconded by Engineer Miller and carded unanimously. PARKING LOT NEXT TO EAGLES City Attorney Galligan said that the parking lot next to the Eagles Club was assessed at $4,700.00. The Eagles are interested in purchasing the lot. City Attorney Galligan has ordered an appraisal as required. City Attorney Galligan has also ordered an appraisal for the lot at 6th and Pearl Street which has been vacated. 1026 E. MAPLE STREET Mayor Galligan recommended a handicap parking sign at 1026 E. Maple Street. Manager Goldman made the motion to approve the handicap sign, seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. 3 WAY STOP REQUEST City Engineer Miller said he received a letter of request for a three way stop at Charlestown Pike and Hamburg Pike. He will call the lady and explain why that can't be done and the safety issues. 905 E. 7TH STREET Mina Smith, the resident at 905 E. 7th Street told the Board that the alley that intersects with Penn Street by her house needs the bushes cut. She said it is also very messy. Mayor Galligan said this would be taken care of. There being no further business to come before the Board of Public Works and Safety, Engineer Miller made the motion to adjoum at 9:50 a.m., seconded by Manager Goldman and carried unanimously.
