JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA MONDAY, MAY 17, 1999
Mayor Galligan called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m., and on call of the roll those members
present were: City Engineer Bob Miller, and Sewage Office Manager Bob Goldman.
Also present were: Fire Chief Mike Smith, Street Commissioner Bobby Ervin, Building
Commissioner Larry Decker, Wastewater Treatment Plant Asst. Director Traylor, Personnel
Director Ellis, Animal Control Officer Henderson, Planning and Development Director Jana
Ecker, Vehicle Maintenance Foreman Mike Ewton, Asst. Redevelopment Director Julie Hinton,
Safety Director John Palmer, Police Chief Mike Pavey, City Attorney Galligan, and Clerk
Lynne Kempf.
Manager Goldman made the motion to approve the minutes of 5/13/99 and 5/3/99 as presented,
seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously.
Manager Goldman made the motion to approve the payroll as presented, seconded by Engineer
Miller and carried unanimously.
INTER-CITY ROAD CLAIMS
Asst. Director of Redevelopment Julie Hinton presented 2 claims to the Board for approval on
the Jeff portion of the Allison Lane Phase 1 project in the amount of $1,960.44 and $474.30 to
Jacobi, Toombs, and Lanz. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the claims; seconded by
Manager Goldman and carded unanimously.
WALK-A-THON
Dodie Ellis asked permission from the Board to hold a walk-a-thon for the Claysburg Youth
Board on May 30th at 6:00 p.m. The streets used for the walk-a-thon will be Locust St.
Pennsylvania Ave., Riddle St., and 12th St. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the
walk-a-thon, seconded by Manager Goldman and carried unanimously.
AVONDALE COURT
Cathy Rosbottom, a resident on Avondale Court complained to the Board about having trouble
getting in and out of her street because of overflow parking from one of the businesses at the
beginning of the street. She also said there is a lot of trash and auto parts laying around. Mayor
Galligan said the right of way needs to be marked. Mayor Gailigan instructed Chief Pavey to tell
the business owner to keep the vehicles on his property or they will be towed.
BAR-B-Q BIKE SHOW
Cardale Vaughn requested that 15th St. be closed for the 2nd Annual Bike Show and Bar-B-Q on
May 22nd from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Manager Goldman made the motion to approve closing 15th St.
from 8 a.m. till 7 p.m. on May 22nd, seconded by Engineer Miller and carded unanimously.
PEDDLER PERMIT
Shawn James asked the Board to approve a permit to sell ice cream fi.om a truck. He said he will
mn the truck fi.om 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Manager Goldman made the motion to approve the vendor
permit, seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously.
ROADBLOCKFOR CRUSADE
Roger Creal, representing the Jeff Jaycees asked for permission to hold a roadblock at Holman's
Lane and Jeff-Chas Pike from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on June 5th and 6th. Manager Goldman
made the motion to approve the roadblock, seconded by Engineer Miller and carried
unanimously.
SEWER TAP
Manager Goldman said Faith Family has requested to finance a sewer tap. Engineer Miller made
the motion to approve the financed sewer tap, seconded by Manager Goldman and carded
unanimously.
PERSONNEL MATTERS
Police Chief Pavey requested the Board's approval to hire Lisa Kuntz for the position of
Telecommunications Operator. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve hiring Lisa Kuntz,
seconded by Manager Goldman and carded unanimously.
Police Chief Pavey requested that the Board approve the promotion of Tim Deeringer from
patrolman to sergeant. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the promotion, seconded by
Manager Goldman and carded unanimously.
SENIOR GAMES
Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the Senior Games Fun Walk on June 7th, 1999
starting at 10:30 a.m., seconded by Manager Goldman and carded unanimously.
WESLEY UNITED YOUTH COUNCIL
Sandra Washington asked the Board to approve closing 15th St. on June 5th from 8:00a.m. to
6:00 p.m. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve closing 15th St. for a block party,
seconded by Manager Goldman and carded unanimously.
GRASSCUTT1NG
Building Commissioner Decker has gotten quotes for grasscutting. (attached) The lowest quotes
were from Elite Lawn Service and Lindley Grasscutting. Engineer Miller made the motion to
approve using Elite Lawn Service and Lindley, seconded by Manager Goldman and carried
unanimously.
STREET LIGHT
Manager Goldman made the motion to approve a street light at the end of Myrtle Street,
seconded by Engineer Miller and carded unanimously.
There being no further business to come before the Board of Public Works and Safety, Sewage
Office Manager Goldman made the motion to adjourn at 10:20 a.m., seconded by Engineer
Miller and carried unanimously.
