HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-12-1999MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, iNDIANA MONDAY, APRIL 12, 1999 In the absence of Mayor Galligan Sewage Office Manager Goldman called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m., and on call of the roll those members present were: City Engineer Bob Miller, Street Commissioner Ervin, sitting in for Sewage Office Manager Bob Goldman. Also present were: Vehicle Maintenance Foreman Mike Ewton, Wastewater Treatment Plant Director Jim Traylor, Fire Chief Mike Smith, Street Commissioner Bobby Ervin, Animal Shelter Control Officer William Henderson, Building Commissioner Larry Decker, Asst. Police Chief John Monihon, Planning and Zoning Director Jana Ecker, City Attorney Galligan, Safety Director John Palmer, and Clerk Lynne Kempf. City Engineer Miller made the motion to approve a sewer claim in the amount of $1500.00 for 4225 Utica-Sellersburg Road as presented, seconded by Street Commissioner Ervin and carried unanimously. City Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the payroll as presented, seconded by Street Commissioner Ervin and carded unanimously. City Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the minutes of 3-29-99 and 4-5-99, seconded by Street Commissioner Ervin and carded unanimously. HOWARD STEAMBOAT MUSEUM Yvonne Knight requested that the City again help with security and to furnish blockades as in the past for tile Arts and Crafts Festival on May 15th and 16th. City Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the festival and supply security and blockades by the City, seconded by Street Commissioner Ervin and carried unanimously. SEWER TAP-IN Jamie Shipley, who is building a house on Utica-Sellersburg Road requested approval of a sewer tap-in ~ City Engineer Miller made the motion to approve a sewer tap-in for Mr. Shipley when needed and the sewer line is available, seconded by Street Commissioner Ervin and carried unanimously. SPRINGDALE DRIVE City Engineer Miller said he had a request from a city resident for a turn arrow on the light at Tenth Street and Springdale Drive. He said this is very expensive to do. Street Commissioner Ervin made the motion to table the request until funding is found to pay for it, seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. SEWER EASEMENT City Attorney Galligan said that almost an acre of land is needed for a sewer easement on Utica-Sellersburg Road. The City has appraisals showing the land is worth more than the proposed purchase price. The land is owned by Luther James. City Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the purchase of the land for the sum of $10,000.00, plus 2 tap-ins, seconded by Street Commissioner Ervin and carried unanimously. HAMBURG PIKE There was discussion concerning pedestrians and joggers on Hamburg Pike as to the danger on such a busy road. City Attorney Galtigan recommended looking further for a solution to this. There being no fi~rther business to come before the Board of Public Works and Safety, City Engineer Miller made the motion to adjourn at 9:45 AM seconded by Street Commissioner Ervin and carried unanimously.
