HomeMy WebLinkAbout08-05-2002MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA AUGUST 5, 2002 Engineer Miller sat in for Mayor Galligan who was absent and called the meeting to order at 9:35 a.m. and on call of the roll those members present were: Councilperson Waiz and Parks Director Elliott. Also present were: Safety Director Rodden, Wastewater Treatment Director Crawford, Redevelopment Director Duggins, Administrator Rich Davis, Fire Chief Smith, Building Commissioner Gavin, Vehicle Maintenance Director Drury, Mayor Assistant White, Street Commissioner Grant, Planning and Zoning Director Ecker, Personnel Director Ellis, Animal Shelter Office Manager Gartelman, Animal Shelter Director Wilder, Police Chief Pavey, Engineering Coordinator Dixon, and Deputy Clerk Lynne Mayfield. VFW-COURT AVENUE Engineer Miller told the Board that the VFW would like to hang an American flag on each end of the traffic islands from Spring Street to Pearl Street. Councilperson Waiz made the motion to approve the VFW hanging flags at the islands from Spring St. to Pearl Street, seconded by Parks Director Elliott and carried unanimously. CONFIRMING RESOLUTION FOR GUTMANN CONDEMNATION Engineer Miller told the Board that an appraisal was received from Richard Baird for $8,000.00 and an appraisal was received from William White for $23,000.00. City Attorney Galligan and Mr. Gutmann's attorney agreed to settle for the amount of $16,000.00 for Mr. Gutmann's property. Councilperson Waiz made the motion to approve the settlement of $16,000.00 for the property of Gordon and Martha Gutmann, seconded by Parks Director Elliott and carried unanimously. FIRE TRUCK BID Fire Chief Smith told the Board that the bid of Pierce Manufacturing was accepted even though it wasn't the low bid for two reasons. The low bidder could not provide a single source manufacturer, and the low bidder could not provide a 200 ft., 1 inch booster line. All the information was faxed to the City Attorney. Parks Director Elliott made the motion to award the bid to Pierce Manufacturing to supply the new fire track, seconded by Councilperson Waiz and carried unanimously. DENNY TRANSPORT-3405 INDUSTRIAL PARK Mr. Jerry Denny of Denny Transport was cited by Planning and Zoning for paving that needs to be done. Mr. Denny appeared before the Board and said due to an act of vandalism he has not been able to pave and asked the Board for more time. Mr. Denny requested two more years to complete the paving. Engineer Miller recommended that Mr. Denny come back to the Board in six months for a review and a plan of action. Councilperson Waiz made the motion to grant Mr. Denny six months to come back with a paving plan seconded by Parks Director Elliott and carried unanimously.
