HomeMy WebLinkAbout06-03-2002MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA June 3, 2002 Mayor Galligan called the meeting to order at 9:40 a.m. Board members present were Engineer Bob Miller and Councilperson Rob Waiz, with Clerk Treasurer Peggy Wilder at the desk. Also present were: Deputy Clerk Lynne Mayfield, Mayor's Assistant Dustin White, Personnel Director Ellis, Wastewater Treatment Director Crawford, Redevelopment Director Duggins, Administrator Rich Davis, Fire Chief Smith, Engineer Dixon, Street Commisioner Grant, Building Commissioner Gavin, Animal Shelter Director Keller, Vehicle Maintenance Director Drury and Parks Superintendent Elliott. There were no claims for approval. Clerk Treasurer Wilder presented the minutes for approval, and Mayor CJalligan requested that the minutes be approved at the next meeting. DUMPSTER AT 300 SPRING Joe Lee appeared before the Board to request permission to place a dumpster behind his business at 300 Spring Street. He told the Board that the dumpster would be 6'x 4' in dimension and managed by Waste Management. Councilperson Walz requester that a fence be placed around the dumpster. Mayor Galligan voiced concerns regarding food in the dumpster, and Mr. Lee told the Board that the dumpster would be emptied as soon as possible following an event to discourage infestation of rodents. The Mayor requested a diagram of the fencing. Engineer Miller made a motion to approve the dumpster pending fence approval, seconded by Councilperson Waiz and carried unanimously. JEFFERSONVII J.E MOOSE LODGE STREET DANCE Douglas Dobson appeared before the Board to request permission to hold a Street Dance on July 27, 2002 in the Jeffersonville Moose Lodge parking lot. Mr. Dobson said the dance would be held from 12 noon until 11 pm, and no street closures would be required. He also indicated that the money raised would go to several charities, including the Thomas lefferson memorial statue. Mayor Galligan asked if JeffBoat had been contacted regarding parking and Mr. Dobson indicated that they had. Councilperson Waiz made a motion to approve the dance, seconded by Engineer Miller and carded unanimously. EL NINO BLOCK PARTY James A. Simms, Jr. appeared before the Board to request street closure for the El Nino Block Party to be held on June 29, 2002 from 12 pm until 7 pm. He is requesting that Michigan Avenue between 6th and 7t~ Street be closed. Councilperson Waiz mgde a motion to approve the closure, seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. Mayor Galligan asked the audience for comments, and Nellie Nolan told the Board that kids in her neighborhood are building ramps and this is causing a hazard. Mayor Galligan directed Street Commissioner Grant to remove them. Marvin Stevenson told the Board that he was re-opening the Mini-Mart on Spring Street and asked if he needed permission to post two temporary signs. Mayor Galligan told him to see Planning and Zoning Director Ecker. He also told the Board that there had been break insin the area and Mayor Galligan directed Police Chief Pavey to send patrols to the backside of the area properties.
