HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-07-2002MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA JANUARY 7, 2002 Mayor Galligan called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. and on call of the roll those members present were: Councilperson Frantz and City Engineer Miller. Also present were: Safety Director Rodden, Personnel Director Ellis, Wastewater Treatment Director Crawford, Redevelopment Director Duggins, Administrator Rich Davis, Fire Chief Smith, Police Chief Pavey, Building Commissioner Gavin, City Attorney Galligan, Animal Shelter Director Keller, Vehicle Maintenance Director Drury, Mayor Assistant White, Street Commissioner Grant, Sewer Inspector Lanum, and Deputy Clerk Lynne Mayfield. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the claims as presented, seconded by ~-~ Councilperson Frantz and carried unanimously. !_ ! EASEMENT Engineer Miller said he has looked at the easement on David Krebs property and said the main sewer runs through it. Councilperson Frantz made the motion to approve vacating the easement from Krebs property, seconded by Mayor Galligan and carried unanimously. PARADE PERMIT Janice Leavell requested a parade permit for Januaw 21, 2002 at 12:00 p.m. The parade is to assemble at Wesley United Methodist Church and walk towards Claysburg Towers, up Spring Street to Riddle Street and then from Riddle Street to Green Street. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the parade permit, seconded by Councilperson Frantz and carried unanimously. CITATION-TONY SCHULER Kevin Dupont, who represents Tony Schuler, appeared before the Board in regard to the citation Mr. Schuler received concerning the ditch along Sawgrass Boulevard. Mr. Schuler was cited to the Board of Public Works to explain why there has been no improvement and flooding is still occurring. Sewer Inspector Lanum said the address is 3617 Sawgrass Blvd. and he has inspected the area and agrees that the problem has not been taken care of. Mr. Dupont responded by saying that the address of 2867 Sawgrass does not exist. Mayor Galligan told Mr. Dupont that he knows exactly where the problem is and that legal action may need to be taken. Mayor Galligan said he wants something done by Mr. Schuler to correct the problem. Mr. Dupont asked for 30 days to respond and Mayor Galligan said no. After some discussion, Councilperson Frantz made the motion to fine Mr. Schuler $250.00 per day if the problem is not taken care of within five days along the rear of Sawgrass Boulevard, seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. CONFIRMING RESOLUTION Notices were published in the Evening News on December 13, and December 20 stating that remonstrances to the proposed condemnation of right-of-way easements through the property owned by the Trustees of the Resurrection Ministries and the property owned by Martin and Joan Ruff would be heard at this meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety. City Attorney Galligan asked if thee was anyone present who wished to remonstrate with regard to either of the proposed condemnations. No remonstrators were present. As there were no remonstrances, Engineer Miller made the motion to approve both of the confirming Resolutions, seconded by Councilperson Frantz and carried unanimously. There being no further discussion to come before the Board the motion was made by Councilperson seconded by City Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. ATTEST: CLEP. R' d AS R
