SAFETY
OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA
AUGUST 14, 2000
Mayor Galligan called the meeting to order at 9:30 A.M., and on call of the roll those
members present were: City Engineer Bob Miller, and Councilperson Frantz.
Also present were: Building Commissioner Larry Decker, Wastewater Treatment
Director Traylor, Vehicle Maintenance Foreman Mike Ewton, Safety Director Rodden,
Redevelopment Assistant Director Duggins, City Attorney Galligan, Animal Shelter
Director Keller, Parks Superintendent Elliott, Police Chief Pavey, Fire Chief Mike
Smith, and Clerk Lynne Mayfield.
City Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the payroll as presented, seconded by
Councilperson Frantz and carried unanimously.
Councilperson Frantz made the motion to approve the sewage claims as presented,
seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously.
City Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the minutes of 7-24-2000, 7-31-2000,
and 8-7-2000 as presented, seconded by Councilperson Frantz and carried unanimously.
COURT AVE. EXTENSION CONTRACT
Planning and Zoning Director Ecker presented to the Board for approval, a contract with
A and F Engineering to perform the work on the Court Avenue extension. Engineer
Miller made the motion to approve the contract with A and F Engineering, seconded by
Councilperson Frantz and carried unanimously.
WINCHELL CONDEMNATION
George Winchell, who owns property on Charlestown Pike, appeared before the Board in
regard to condemnation proceedings involving his property. The city's appraiser, Richard
Baird, appeared before the Board with an appraisal of $4,600.00. Mr. Winchell got an
appraisal from Mr. Crum, his appraiser in the amount of $9,590.00. Mr. Baird and City
Attorney Galligan stressed to Mr. Winchell that his property will be worth more after
sewers are put in, but Mr. Winchell did not agree with their appraisal. After much
discussion, Engineer Miller made the motion to adopt Resolution No. 2000-13
confirming the damage award of $4,600.00, seconded by Councilperson Frantz and
carried unanimously.
212 W. RIVERSIDE DRIVE
Planning and Zoning Director Ecker said that Nora Long of 212 W. Riverside Drive is
requesting resident only parking all along the front of her apartment building. City
Attorney Galligan said this couldn't be done.
SIGNS AT EASTGATE AND EASTBROOK
Planning and Zoning Director Ecker requested 8 ton load limit signs to be put up in
Eastgate and Eastbrook Subdivision. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the
signs, seconded by Councilperson Frantz and carried unanimously.
SIGNS ON MORRIS AVENUE
Engineer Miller made the motion to approve putting up dead end and children playing
signs on Morris Avenue and Long Street, seconded by Councilperson Frantz and carried
unanimously.
FOXBORO FOUR
Engineer Miller made the motion to accept Marietta Drive and Macon Courtin Foxboro
Subdivision, seconded by Councilperson Frantz and carried unanimously.
8th STREET CONSTRUCTION
Engineer Miller said that Reynold's Inc. is set to begin work on 8th Street on August 28,
2000. A press release will be done. He said that Meigs Aven~e and 8th Street will be
blocked for approximately 3 weeks. Fire Chief Smith asked about Reynold's safety
procedures and equipment. Engineer Miller said that Reynold's Inc. has their own safety
director and equipment.
There being no further business to come before the Board of Public Works and Safety,
City Engineer Miller made the motion to adjourn at 10:45 A.M., seconded by
Councilperson Frantz and carded unanimously.
