HomeMy WebLinkAbout05-22-2000MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA MAY 22, 2000 Mayor Galligan called the meeting to order at 9:30 A.M., and on call of the roll those members present were: City Engineer Bob Miller, and Councilperson Frantz. Also present were: Building Commissioner Larry Decker, Wastewater Treatment Director Traylor, Vehicle Maintenance Foreman Mike Ewton, Safety Director Rodden,, Councilperson Ellis, Wastewater Treatment Assistant Director Wilkey, Street Commissioner Grant, Redevelopment Assistant Director Duggins, Manager Goldman, City Attorney Galligan, Personnel Director Ellis, Police Chief Pavey, Fire Chief Mike Smith, and Clerk Lynne Mayfield. City Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the payroll as presented, seconded by Councilperson Frantz and carried unanimously. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the claims as presented, seconded by Councilperson Frantz and carried unanimously. 1012 JONQUIL DRIVE Lorraine Mudd who lives at 1012 Jonquil Drive told the Board she is having a drainage problem. City Engineer Miller said he is familiar with the area and problem and said behind the cul-de-sac needs to be reditched. Mayor Galligan said he would be out to look at it. RESIDENT PAKKING Police Chief Pavey said he would check 215 W. Chestnut Street for resident only parking. SENIOR GAMES FUN WALK Julie Wilson came before the Board to request a parade permit and the use of the Warder Park gazebo on June 5, 2000 at 10:30 a.m. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the parade permit and use of the Warder Park gazebo, seconded by Councilperson Frantz and carried unanimously. CRUSADE FOR CHILDREN Keith Sellmer of the Jeff Jaycee's asked permission to hold roadblocks for the Crusade for Children. Mayor Galligan explained the problems and complaints of roadblocks. The Mayor said the fire Dept. is going to do a roadblock and if the Jaycee's want to do one they'll need to show proof of insurance. Mr. Sellmer said he probably wouldn't have time to provide proof of insurance for this year but could in the future. PRE-PAID LEGAL SERVICES Peggy Fox appeared before the Board and presented information on Pre-Paid Legal Services. NOV-PO CORP. Wastewater Treatment Plant Director Traylor told the Board that PQ Corp. during the month of April 2000 failed to perform anad report the ammonia and biochemical oxygen demand tests required by PQ Corp. permit requirements. Wastewater Treatment Director Traylor recommended that the Board fine PQ Corp. $100.00. Engineer Miller made the motion to fine PQ Corp. $100.00, seconded by Councilperson Frantz and carried unanimously. SPRING ST. LIFT STATION Wastewater Treatment Plant Director Traylor asked the Board to approve the painting of the Spring Street Lift Station. Three estimates were received. They are: Whitehouse- $9,039.00, On Site-S9,400.00, Kenny Manta-S19,800.00 and Odle-$22,700.00. Wastewater Treatment Plant Director Traylor recommended that the Board accept the Whitehouse estimate of $9,039.00. Councilperson Frantz made the motion to approve the estimate of Whitehouse to paint the Spring Street Lift Station, seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. MISSOURI AVE. SEWER LINE Wastewater Treatment Plant Director Traylor asked the Board to approve the cleaning of the sewer line in the 200 block of Missouri Ave. Director Traylor recommended the Board approve Kenny Manta's low bid of $8,100.00. The other bid was $17,885.00 from Aqua Pro, Inc. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the bid of Kenny Manta, seconded by Councilperson Frantz and carded unanimously. BOOM TRUCK BID OPENING A bid was received from Fusco in the amount of $75,741.00. Engineer Miller made the motion to table until the next meeting, seconded by Councilperson Frantz and carried unanimously. 916 WALNUT STREET Building Commissioner Decker recommended that the Board fine Pete Newsom $500.00 for various violations. Building Commissioner Decker said the City needs to mow the lawn, clean up open storage and bill him accordingly. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve mowing the lawn, cleaning up the open storage and bill accordingly, and a $500.00 fine, seconded by Councilperson Frantz and carried unanimously. COMPLAINT Councilperson Ellis told the Board he received a letter from Barbara Donohue about a company next to her residence that builds boats and makes a lot of noise. Mayor Galligan said he would talk to the owne s of the business. SPRING ST. AND RIDDLE ST. Councilperson Ellis received a complaint about patrons of Northside Tavern taking up parking on Spring St. and Riddle St. After some discussion, the Board decided to put up "No Parking" signs where needed. 403 MYRTLE STREET Councilperson Grooms appeared before the Board with Leslie Smith who resides on Myrtle Street. She hav various neighborhood concerns including old cars sitting around, trash problems, drug dealing, and etc. After much discussion, Building Commissioner Decker told Ms. Smith he would meet with her to discuss all the problems going on. 240 SPRING STREET Engineer Miller said he received a call from Mr. Vessner at 240 Spring Street wanting to install a sprinkler system. Mayor Galligan said the sprinkler system can be put in. Engineer Miller said there should be more restrictions on the way patches are put back in after a sprinkler system is installed.
