JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA MONDAY, APRIL 3, 2000
Mayor Galligan called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m., and on call of the roll those members
present were: City Engineer Bob Miller, and Councilperson Franz.
Also present were: Building Commissioner Larry Decker, Police Chief Mike Pavey, Wastewater
Treatment Director Traylor, Vehicle Maintenance Foreman Mike Ewton, Planning and Zoning
Director Jana Ecker, Councilperson Ellis, Animal Control Officer Henderson, Wastewater
Treatment Asst. Director Wilke, Street Commissioner Grant, Redevelopment Asst. Director
Duggins, Fire Chief Mike Smith, and Clerk Lynne Mayfield.
City Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the payroll as presented, seconded by
Councilperson Franz and carried unanimously.
Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the sewage claim as presented, secondext by
Conncilperson Franz and carried unanimously.
VENDOR PERMITS
Maria Shimmel of 639 E. Bumett in Louisville, Ky. appeared before the Board to ask approval of
a permit to sell hot dogs on April 8 and April 15 on Bubby Vissing's riverfront property which is
next to Duffy's Landing. The Board said no permit is needed when selling on private property.
Mike Benson of 717 Dellinger Drive asked approval of a permit to sell children's items on the
day of Thunder Over Louisville. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the permit,
seconded by Councilperson Franz and carried unanimously.
Richard Lamb of Henryville, Indiana asked approval of a permit to sell fireworks/3D eyeglasses
the day of Thunder Over Louisville. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the peri, it,
seconded by Councilperson Franz and carded unanimously.
Barb Hodges, with the Courier Journal asked the Board to approve a vendor permit for the day of
Thunder Over Louisville to sell Thunder Over Louisville posters. Engineer Miller made the
motion to approve the permit, seconded by Councilperson Franz and carried unanimously.
Julie Stewart of 3118 River Road. Louisville, Ky. asked the Board to approve 5 permits for the
day of Thunder Over Louisville to sell balloons and glow necklaces. Engineer Miller made the
motion to approve the permits, seconded by Councilperson Franz and carried unanimously.
CHERRY CREEK CONDOS
Charley Igert asked the Board for advice on traffic control and animal control at the condos. He
said the speed bumps aren't high enough to deter speeders. Mayor Galligan said the speed bumps
could be raised and should be painted. Chief Pavey will meet with Mr. Igert on this. Mr. Igert
said he is also having a problem with some residents not keeping their animals on leashes when
outside. He wanted to know if he could call Animal Control and have someone come out and let
the animal owners know that the animals must be on leashes when outside. Animal Control
Officer Henderson said he could do this. Mr. Igert said he would appreciate being notified of ar?
new businesses coming nearby the Cherry Creek Condos. Planning and Zoning Director £ck~r
said she would be happy to let him know. Mr. Igert invited everyone to come out and look at
Cherry Creek as it has new landscaping, trees, new siding, and new windows.
4 WAY STOP
Street Commissioner Grant told the Board that Todd Zimmerman is requesting a 4 way stop at
Walpole and Ewing Lane. Mr. Zimmerman said his son was hit riding his bike there. Engineer
Miller made the motion to take this under advisement for one week. seconded by Counci!person
Franz and carded unanimously.
PERSONNEL MATTER
Police Chief Pavey asked the Board's approval of hiring Jeffery L. Pavey to fill the police officer
vacancy. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve hiring Jeffery Pavey, seconded by
Councilperson Franz and carded unanimously.
727 E. MAPLE STREET
Fire Chief Smith informed the Board that he has written a letter in regard to the propeity at 727
E. Maple Street owned by William L. Allen. He states in the letter thaat the property structure is
unsafe and a fire hazard. He wants the property owner to know that he/she is putting in jeopardy
the safety of all firefighters in the City of Jeffersonville and jeopardizing all adjoining property
owners on Maple Street and Fulton Street. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve sending
the letter to Mr. Allen and making it part of the the Board of Public Works minutes, seconded by
Councilperson Franz and carded unanimously.
There being no further business to come before the Board of Public Works and Safety, Manager
made the motion to adjourn at 10:30 a.m., seconded by City Engineer Miller and carried
unanimously.
