HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-10-2000MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA MONDAY, JANUARY 10, 2000 Mayor Galligan called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m., and on call of the roll those members present were: City Engineer Bob Miller, and Sewage Office Manager Bob Goldman. Also present were: Fire Chief Mike Smith, Police Chief Mike Pavey} Planning and Zoning Director Ecker, Councilman Ron Grooms. Sewage Director Gelsena Smith, Animal Control Officer Henderson, Asst. Director of Redevelopment David Duggins, Safety Director Rodden, Street Commissioner Grant. Wastewater Treatment Assistant Director Traylor, Building Commissioner Larry, Decker, Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor Mike Ewton, City Attorney Anne Marie Galligan, and Clerk Lynne Mayfield. Manager Goldman made the motion to approve the minutes of 12-28-99, 12-30-99, and 1-3-00 as presented, seconded by Engineer Miller and carded unanimously. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the claims as presented, seconded by Manager Goldman and carried unanimously. Manager Goldman made the motion to approve the payroll as presented, seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. BID OPENING Bids were received and opened for a new excavator. The bids are as follows: Brandeis Machinery- $206,000.00, Carlisle Equipment- $181,919.00, Holt Equipment-S192,000.00, Case Equipment Hunt Tractor $184,725.00, and Whayne Supply- $255,062.00. Engineer Miller made the motion to take the bids under advisement until Tuesday, January 18,2000, seconded by Manager Goldman and carded unanimously. MCLELAND PROPERTY Attorney Galligan told the Board she has an appointment with Mr. Baird to discuss his appraisal of the McLeland property at the next Board of Public Work's meeting. Mr. McLeland has a ~k'x&. concerns, one being the storm drain that was put in. He said water is backing up in his back yard. Mayor Galligan said this problem can be taken care of. Mr. McLeland said some of the culverts have caved in. Mayor Galligan recommended that Mr. McLeland contact the Indiana Dept. of Transportation on this. LANDSBERG COVE Engineer Miller has inspected Lansberg Cove and made the motion to release $26,000.00 on the letter of credit, seconded by Manager Goldman and carried unanimously. DRAINAGE PROBLEM Councilman Ron Grooms appeared before the Board and introduced Chad Armstrong, a County resident who has a drainage problem on Beechwood Road in Oak Park. Mr. Armstrong said he would like for a study to be done on this problem. Mayor Galligan said that addressing this problem would take money and time and this area isn't in the City. Mayor Galligan said he would be willing to meet with the Oak Park residents and give them advice on how to get something done. 1504 SPORTSMAN DRIVE Councilman Ron Grooms said a resident at 1504 Sportsman Drive called him in regards to the driveway at his residence. The resident wanted to know if he could replace the inch and a half pipes at the entrance to the driveway. Mayor Galligan said the pipes cannot be put back in. All plates and pipes have been or will be taken out by the City. BRIGMAN AVE. Councilman Grooms presented a letter from a resident concerned about speeding in the alley behind Brigman Avenue. Mayor Galligan said he would check it out. 1203 CEDARVIEW DRIVE Councilman Grooms said he received a call from a Mrs. Grinstaff about extra pavement around a storm drain that is preventing the flow of water. Mayor Galligan said the ditch behind the street is probably the problem. The Mayor said he would address the problem. There being no further business to come before the Board of Public Works and Safety, City Engineer Miller made the motion to adjourn at 10:30 a.m., seconded by Sewage Office Manager Goldman and carried unanimously.
