JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA MONDAY, JANUARY 3, 2000
Mayor Galligan called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m.. and on call of the roll those members
present were: City Engineer Bob Miller, and Sewage Office Manager Bob Goldman.
Also present were: Fire Chief Mike Smith, Police Chief Mike Pavey, Planning and Zoning
Director Ecker, Animal Control Officer Henderson, Asst. Director of Redevelopment David
Duggins, Safety Director Rodden. Street Commissioner Grant. Wastewater Treatment Assistant
Director Traylor, Building Commissioner Larry Decker. Vehicle Maimanance Supervisor Mike
Ewton. City Attorney Anne Made Galligan, and Clerk Lyrme Mayfield.
727 E. MAPLE STREET
Building Commissioner Decker presented the Board with an outline of the highlights of
Violation Notices sent to Bill Allen concemmg his property m 727 E.Maple Street. Despite
receiving a continuance of his Dec. 20 hearing as requested by his attorney, Larry Wilder, Mr.
Allen didn't appear at this meeting. Attorney Galligan informed the Board that she received a
message this morning that another attorney, Jean Cunningham, called late in the afternoon,
Thursday, December 30. 1999 on Mr. Allen's behalf. Building Commissioner Decker said none
of the scheduled repairs have been done and says the house ~s beyond repair. Building
Commissioner Decker has received 3 quotes on demolishing the house. Mayor Galligan told
Building Commissioner Decker to check and make sure that the quotes include demolition,
rcnnoval of debris, seeding, and fill dirt. Building Commissioner Decker said the house is
structurally unsound and meets all criteria to be torn down and recommends it. Fire Chief Smith
said the house is a fire hazard and he supports Decker's recommendation. Building
Commissioner Decker said he will contact someone to check for asbestos. Engineer Miller made
the motion to approve the demolition of the house at 727 E. Maple Street, seconded by Manager
Goldman and carried unanimously.
There being no further business to come before the Board of Public Works and Safety, City
Engineer Miller made the motion to adjourn at 10:00 a.m., seconded by Sewage Office Manager
Goldman and carried unanimously.
