HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-01-2001 MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA OCTOBER 1, 2001 Mayor Galligan called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. and on call of the roll those members present were: Councilperson Frantz and City Engineer Miller. Also present were: Safety Director Rodden, Planning and Zoning Director Jana Ecker, Personnel Director Ellis, Wastewater Treatment Director Crawford, Redevelopment Director Duggins, Administrator Rich Davis, Fire Chief Smith, Police Chief Pavey, Building Commissioner Gavin, City Attorney Galligan, Animal Shelter Director Keller, Vehicle Maintenance Director Drury, Parks Superintendent Elliott, and Deputy Clerk Lynne Mayfield. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the claims as presented, seconded by r—,Councilperson Frantz and carried unanimously. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the payroll as presented, seconded by Councilperson Frantz and carried unanimously. 218 KEWANNA DRIVE Planning and Zoning Director Ecker told the Board that Tina Read, who did not appear at the meeting) of 218 Kewanna Drive will be cited for having five vehicles parked in her yard. (Front and back). Ms. Read told Director Ecker that she has no money to pave at this time. Councilperson Frantz made the motion to give Ms. Read 60 days to pave before imposing a fine seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. 2704 SCALES COURT Building Commissioner Gavin said he would find out who owns the house at 2704 Scales Court and the foreclosure information. The sidewalk in front of the house is torn up and needs repair. LETTER OF CREDIT Engineer Miller made the motion to release $74,888.00 of the letter of credit for the Landsberg Cove bond, holding $19,388.00 until the blacktop is completed, seconded by r-- Councilperson Frantz and carried unanimously. e PARKING PERMITS k Engineer Miller told the Board that he has parking permits for the Chestnut Street municipal parking. The police department will handle distributing them. CONFIRMING RESOLUTION IN CONDEMNATION PROCEEDING City Attorney Galligan told the Board she received two appraisals on the property on Pearl Street owned by Robert and Helen Pendygraft. One was from Lynn Bell in the amount of$8,000.00. The other was from Perry Reisert in the amount of$7,000.00. The initial Resolution awarded damages in the amount of$7,500.00. Mrs. Pendygraft appeared and told the Board that she was required by the Planning and Zoning Board to cover her dumpster in the same material as her building. She said the cost for her to do that was $1,000.00. She told the Board she would sell the property for $10,000.00 and no less, including the dumpster. After some discussion Engineer Miller made the motion to approve awarding damages of $7,500.00 to Ms. Pendygraft for her property and $1,000.00 for the dumpster, seconded by Councilperson Frantz and carried unanimously. VECTOR TRUCK Wastewater Treatment Plant Director Crawford told the Board that he and the Mayor visited the Owensboro, Regional Sewer Authority to look at a used vactor truck that Deeds Equipment in Owensboro is selling for th Authority. This truck is comparable to a new vector truck that EMC had recommended, which would cost approximately $265,000.00. Owensboro's used truck can be purchased for $158,000.00. It has only 20,000 miles usage and has been exceptionally well maintained. Director Crawford said that in his opinion, purchasing this used truck would be a unique opportunity to purchase a vector truck at a substantial savings to the City. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve EMC purchasing the used vector truck from Deeds Equipment, seconded by Councilperson Franz and carried unanimously. The truck will be delivered about two (2) months from purchase. There being no further discussion to come before the Board the motion was made by Councilperson Frantz to adjourn at 10. 0 a.m., seconded by City Engineer Miller and carried unanimously.
