HomeMy WebLinkAbout08-20-2001 b MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA AUGUST 20, 2001 Mayor Galligan called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. and on call of the roll those members present Were: City Engineer Miller and Councilperson Frantz. Also present were: Safety Director Rodden, Planning and Zoning Director Jana Ecker, Building Commissioner Bill Gavin, Animal Control Officer Wright, Street Commissioner Grant, Vehicle Maintenance Director Drury, Youth Director Knight, Parks Director Rick Elliott, Redevelopment Director Duggins, Personnel Director Ellis, Administrator Rich Davis, Fire Chief Smith, Police Chief Pavey, and Clerk Lynne Mayfield. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the minutes of 8-13-01 as presented, seconded by Councilperson Frantz and carried unanimously. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the payroll as presented, seconded by Councilperson Frantz and carried unanimously. 131 W. CHESTNUT STREET Linda Williams, who resides at 131 W. Chestnut Street, appeared before the Board about tractor-trailer rigs parking in the lot by her house. She said the trucks are very loud and are a disturbance to her. Mayor Galligan said he would take care of this problem. PEDDLER PERMIT Iran Neal appeared before the Board to request a peddler permit to sell ice cream and chilidogs. Mayor Galligan told Mr. Neal to contact Police Chief Pavey with the required information. Councilperson Frantz made the motion to approve the peddler permit, seconded by Mayor Galligan and carried unanimously. r— 2819 CHAS. N.A. PIKE AND 109 FAIRVIEW AVENUE Building Commissioner Gavin told the Board that he sent an Unsafe Building Order to the owner of the structure at 2819 New Albany-Charlestown Pike setting a hearing for today's Board of Public Works meeting. Building Commissioner Gavin received back the Certified Mail Return Receipt card showing the owner received notice. However, the owner did not appear at the meeting or contact him prior to the meeting. Building Commissioner Gavin testified that the structure had been damaged by fire, was unoccupied and had been boarded up for several months. It is in danger of collapse, and he recommended demolishing it. Building Commissioner Gavin told the Board that he also sent an Unsafe Building Order to the owner of the structure at 109 Fairview Avenue setting a hearing for today's Board of Public Works meeting. Building Commissioner Gavin received back the Certified Mail Return Receipt card showing the owner received notice. However, the owner did not appear at the meeting or contact him prior to the meeting. Building Commissioner Gavin testified that the structure had been damaged by fire, and he recommended demolishing it, also. Engineer Miller made the motion to demolish both of the structures, seconded by Councilperson Frantz and carried unanimously. C. EXTENSION OF SERVICE CREDIT Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the extension of additional service credit (Pert) for Street Department retiree, Richard Broy contingent upon City Attorney Galligan's recommendation, seconded by Councilperson Frantz and carried unanimously. HANDICAPPED PARKING Handicapped parking has been requested by Jerry Lemons at 925 E. 7th Street and removed from 1021 E. 7th Street. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the change if Chief Pavey determines it is appropriate, seconded by Councilperson Frantz and carried unanimously. STREET CLOSING Youth Commission Director Bev Knight asked the Board to approve closing Court and Spring Street at 9:00 a.m. on September 15, 2001 for the Steamboat Days 5K Run. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the street closing, seconded by Councilperson Frantz and carried unanimously. ,--- There being no further discussion to come before the Board the motion was made by Councilperson Frantz to adjourn at 10:20 a.m., seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously.
