HomeMy WebLinkAbout08-06-2001 MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA AUGUST 6, 2001 Mayor Galligan called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. and on call of the roll those members present Were: City Engineer Miller and Councilperson Frantz. Also present were: Safety Director Rodden, Planning and Zoning Director Jana Ecker, Wastewater Treatment Director Traylor, Parks Director Rick Elliott, Personnel Director Ellis, Administrator Rich Davis, Fire Chief Smith, Building Commissioner Gavin, Street Commissioner Grant, Wastewater Collection Supervisor Wright, Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor Drury, Redevelopment Director Duggins, Youth Commission Director Bev Knight, City Attorney Galligan, and Deputy Clerk Lynne Mayfield. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the minutes of 7-23-01 and 7-30-01 as presented, seconded by Councilperson Frantz and carried unanimously. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the payroll as presented, seconded by Councilperson Frantz and carried unanimously. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the claims as presented,seconded by Councilperson Frantz and carried unanimously. AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION HEART WALK-, Jennifer Riley asked the Board to allow the closing of the Clark Memorial Bridge from 9:30 to 10:30 on August 25, 2001 for the Heart Walk. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the closing, seconded by Councilperson Frantz and carried unanimously. OFFICE DEPOT Mike Kampshaefer of Office Depot handed out catalogs and account information to all department heads to make ordering easier and more efficient. AMERICAN WIND SYMPHONY Safety Director Rodden asked the Board to approve closing Wall Street to Pearl Street on Riverside and up to the floodwall on Spring, Wall, and Pearl Street for the American Wind Symphony concert on August 8, 2001. Councilperson Frantz made the motion to approve the street closures, seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. __ NEW EMPLOYEE • • Safety Director Rodden asked the Board to approve hiring Charles Martin starting August 16, 2001 to the Police Department as a Patrolman. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the hiring seconded by Councilperson Frantz and carried unanimously. STREET CLOSURE Youth Commission Director Beverly Knight asked the Board to approve closing Court and Wall Streets by Warder Park on September 22, 2001 from 8:00 a.m. to 6 p.m. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the closure, seconded by Councilperson Frantz and carried unanimously. CONDEMNATION City Attorney Galligan asked the Board to approve Resolution 2001-3 condemning a small lot on Pearl Street approximately 23 ft. by 97 ft. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the condemnation, seconded by Councilperson Frantz and carried unanimously. s USDOT EVENT City Attorney Galligan said she received correspondence from USDOT on the upcoming conference on government procurement to be held at Caesar's of Indiana on September 6, 2001. They asked if the City would like to be an exhibitor. To staff a table is no cost and a table and two chairs are provided. Set up will be on September 5, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. Redevelopment Director Duggins expressed an interest in handing out information on the Enterprise Zone. APPROVAL OF LEASE-RESOLUTION 2001-4 City Attorney Galligan presented for approval a lease for $157,000.00 of computer equipment. The lease is through the Indiana Bond Bank with a $30,000.00 down payment and $46,295.08 per year for five years to be paid from the Cum Cap Development fund. Councilperson Frantz made the motion to approve the lease, seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. There being no further discussion to come before the Board the motion was made by Councilperson Frantz to adjourn at 10:40 a.m., seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. The vacancy is for a patrolman. Mr. Martin has passed a written, physical agility, physical and psychological tests. He is currently an officer with the Sellersburg Police Department.
