MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY
OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA
JULY 30, 2001
Mayor Galligan called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. and on call of the roll those members
present were: City Engineer Miller and Personnel Director Ellis sitting in for Councilperson
Frantz.
Also present were: Planning and Zoning Director Jana Ecker, Animal Shelter
Director Keller, Redevelopment Director Duggins, Administrator Rich Davis, Fire
Chief Smith, Police Chief Pavey, Building Commissioner Gavin, Street
Commissioner Grant, Wastewater Treatment Plant Director Traylor, Wastewater
Collection Supervisor Wright, and Deputy Clerk Lynne Mayfield.
PEDDLER PERMIT
Steve Johnson requested a peddler permit to sell multi-purpose cleaners during the
month of August. Mayor Galligan told Mr. Johnson to give Police Chief Pavey
some information and then go to the Clerk-Treasurer's office for his $25.00 permit.
Personnel Director Ellis made the motion to approve the peddler permit, seconded
by Mayor Galligan and carried unanimously.
PEDDLER PERMIT
Robin Bryant requested a peddler permit to sell T-shirts, hats, ladies accessories,
etc. Mayor Galligan told Mr. Bryant to contact the Police Chief and then go to the
Clerk-Treasurer's office for the $25.00 permit. Personnel Director Ellis made the
motion to approve the peddler permit, seconded by Mayor Galligan and carried
unanimously.
NEIGHBORHOOD CONCERNS
Terry Rosbottom who resides at 1061 Avondale Court spoke to the Board about
various concerns. He said street cleaning is being done behind his home at 1:00
a.m. and finished around 3 a.m. disturbing his family's sleep. He said his street
hasn't been cleaned in quite some time. Mayor Galligan assured him his street
would be cleaned. Mr. Rosbottom also has concerns about the dumpster pickup at
Jeff Plaza. He said there are four dumpsters lined up which are behind Avondale
Court and are being dumped from 3-6 a.m., which makes a lot of noise. Mayor
Galligan said he would work on a solution to this problem. Mr. Rosbottom
inquired about limb removal and Mayor Galligan told him to call the street
department for pickup. Last but not least, Mr. Rosbottom asked if Jeff Plaza is
being rezoned. Planning and Zoning Director Eckel- said it is not being re-zoned.
She said a new restaurant is applying to move into a front location of the Plaza near
the Chinese Restaurant.
NEGRO BASEBALL
Thomas English appeared before the Board in regard to Negro Baseball history.
Mr. English is planning to host a baseball game in Indiana on August 19, 2001 and
would like the Mayor to participate. Mayor Galligan said that wouldn't be a
problem. The Mayor said the best location to hold thergame would be Memorial
Park. The Parks Department schedule will be checked to see if that date is
available. Mr. English said he would like to make this an annual event. Mayor
Galligan said he would work with him on the fees to use the park.
At 10:00 a.m. City Engineer Miller made the motion to adjourn, seconded by Personnel
Director Ellis and carried unanimously.
