HomeMy WebLinkAbout06-25-2001 r MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA JUNE 25, 2001 Mayor Galligan called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. and on call of the roll those members present Were: City Engineer Miller and Councilperson Frantz. Also present were: Safety Director Rodden, Building Commissioner Bill Gavin , Animal Shelter Director Keller, Parks Director Rick Elliott, Street Commissioner Grant, Wastewater Collection Supervisor Wright, Wastewater Treatment Plant Director Traylor, Redevelopment Executive Assistant Ellenbrand, Personnel Director Ellis, Administrator Rich Davis, Fire Chief Smith, Police Chief Pavey, City Attorney Galligan,and Clerk Lynne Mayfield. BOAT DOCK Linda Basinger of 3314 Norma Drive appeared before the Board in regard to her problem with getting to her boat dock because of other dock owners cars blocking the way. She said she has asked them to park so that she can get through but to no avail. After some discussion Mayor Galligan said that a parking spot will be painted for her. He said she can relocate down river if need be also. STATE CHAMPIONSHIP SIGNS Mr. Ted Throckmorton appeared before the Board and asked the status on the State Basketball Championship signs. Mayor Galligan said the signs are being made and should be completed soon. LOUISVILLE ORCHESTRA Redevelopment Executive Assistant Ellenbrand told the Board that the Louisville Orchestra is scheduled to perform on July 10, 2001 on the Terrace Lawn. The charge to attend is $10.00 and water and cokes will be sold. Marvin Stephenson asked to have a concession for the event. Mayor Galligan said he will discuss it with him. The event will be advertised in the Courier Journal. 6 r-- INDUSTRIAL PARK Councilperson Frantz told the Board that he noticed just about every business in the Industrial Park parking on grass. He suggested finding another solution to the problem rather than forcing the businesses to immediately pave. Mayor Galligan said something has to be done to improve the appearance of the park. Ted Throckmorton said there are other ways to clean up the Industrial Park besides paving. Mayor Galligan said an ordinance has been in effect since the building's were built and has never been followed. Mayor Galligan said he is only asking for a plan of action from the businesses TUBBY'S RESTAURANT Building Commissioner Gavin told the Board that a deadline needs to be set for Glenn Muncy to provide a complete set of plans, get an environmental assessment, and apply for financing to repair the building. Building Commissioner Gavin was told by Mr. Muncy that he has received the insurance money from the fire and the mortgage has been paid off. Muncy said he has an estimate of$275,000.00 to restore the building. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve giving Mr. Muncy 30 days (July 30, 2001 BPW Meeting) to obtain an environmental assessment, submit engineering plans to the state, and apply for financing, seconded by Councilperson Frantz and carried unanimously. 1107 REEDS LANE Layne Smith who owns the property at 1107 Reeds Lane and the renter of the property, Mr. Borraga appeared before the Board as well as legal representation in regard to parking cars on gravel and clean up. Mr. Borraga said sometimes he needs to park the cars on the gravel because of a lack of space. Mayor Galligan said all vehicles must be parked on a hard surface by Ordinance. After discussion, City Attorney Galligan said she would meet with Mr. Borraga and Planning and Zoning Director Ecker to discuss a plan of action. There being no further discussion to come before the Board the motion was made by Councilperson Frantz to adjou at 10:50 a.m sec nded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously.
