SAFETY
OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA
FEBRUARY 26, 2001
Mayor Galligan called the meeting to order at 9:30 A.M., and on call of the roll those
members present were: City Engineer Bob Miller, and Councilperson Frantz.
Also present were: Building Commissioner Larry Decker, Wastewater Treatment
Director Traylor, Vehicle Maintenance Foreman Mike Ewton, Safety Director Rodden,
Wastewater Treatment Assistant Director Wilkey, Street Commissioner Grant,
Redevelopment Assistant Director Duggins, Personnel Director Ellis, Planning and
Zoning Director Ecker, Administrator Rich Davis, Parks Director Elliott, Fire Chief
Mike Smith, and Clerk Lynne Mayfield.
City Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the payroll as presented, seconded by
Councilperson Frantz and carried unanimously.
Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the minutes of 2-5-2001 and 2-20-01 as
presented, seconded by Councilperson Frantz and carried unanimously.
BID OPENING-PAVING AND PETROLEUM

Engineer Miller made the motion to take the bids under advisement, seconded by
Councilperson Frantz and carried unanimously.
RESIDENT PARKING
Brian Smith asked the Board for two resident only parking signs. Mayor Galligan asked
the police department to check the location and report back to the Board.
NEW HIRE
Safety Director Rodden told the Board that Police Chief Pavey recommends hiring
Denver Leverett to the police department effective March 1, 2001. Councilperson Frantz
made the motion to approve hiring Denver Leverett to the police department effective
March 1, 2001, seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously.
ROAD CLOSURE
Engineer Miller said that N.A./Chas. Pike will be closed for 10 to 30 days sometime next
year for work to be performed on the railroad track and to put in a traffic light by the
Industrial Park. Councilperson Frantz made the motion to approve closing Chas./N.A.
Pike next year, seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously.
INDIANA DEPT.OF TRANSPORTATION
Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the agreement with INDOT on
administering funds to build the Inter-city road, seconded by Councilperson Frantz and
carried unanimously.
SIDEWALKS
Engineer Miller said that Ned Pfau is going to put in sidewalks from Walnut Street to
Wall Street along 8th Street to be paid for by Mr. Pfau.
EIGHTH STREET
Jorge Lanz of Jacobi, Toombs, and Lanz asked if blacktop can be put in the low spots on
Eighth Street. Street Commissioner Grant said it will be done in March, weather
permitting.

There being no further business to come before the Board of Public Works and Safety,
City Engineer Miller made the motion to adjourn at 10:45 A.M., seconded by
Councilperson Frantz and carried unanimously.

Dear Sir/Madams,
I am requesting authorization to hire Denver Leverett for a vacancy at the Jeffersonville
Police Department. The vacancy is for a patrolman that is due to a recent retirement.
Mr. Leverett has passed a written, physical agility, physical and psychological tests. The
department has also conducted a background investigation, which he has passed. I am
requesting a start date of March 1, 2001.
