A RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING AND ASSIGNING DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES FOR VOLUNTEERS
AT THE JOSEPHINE B. OGLE ANIMAL SHELTER

WHEREAS, IC 36-1-2-9(3) designates the Common Council of the City of Jeffersonville as the Legislative Body of said
city, and
WHEREAS, IC 36-4-4-3 grants the legislative body of a city, through the passage of ordinances, orders, resolutions, and
motions the authority to delegate and assign functions that are previously not specifically assigned, the
Common Council of the City of Jeffersonville now wishes to clarify the duties and responsibilities of all
volunteers at the Animal Shelter, and
WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City of Jeffersonville believes it is in the best interest of public safety to regulate
and control the release of animals from the Josephine B. Ogle Animal Shelter (the Shelter) to volunteer
organizations and/or individuals,
THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED BYTHECOMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
JEFFERSONVILLE:
SECTION 1: The Director of Volunteers shall direct and assign all duties of volunteers at the Shelter.
SECTION 2: No animals from the Shelter shall be released to rescue organizations and/or Shelter volunteers without the
permission of both the Shelter Director and the Director of Volunteers. Under no circumstance~ shall any
animal be released to any organization that is not a registerecl501C3 ~~ OL~\ bert:~
SECTION 3: The Director of Volunteers shall be autho.r;ized to develop ~~~ent a tr~r=--~tO adopt
such rules and regulations for all volunteers that the Director of Volunteers may feel necessary.
SECTION 4: Any volunteer not willing to follow the above mentioned directives shall be prohibited from accessing the
Shelter by the Director of Volunteers.
This resolution shall be in full force and effect after passage by the Common Council of the
City of Jeffersonville and approval by the Mayor of the City of Jeffersonville or upon a subsequent timely override of
a veto by the Mayor.
