A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE ENHANCEMENT
OF PUBLIC SAFETY
Whereas, the City. of Jeffersonville has grown substantially in both population and area in the past fifteen years, and
Whereas, it is a priority to provide adequate fire and police protection m all residents of the City, and
Whereas, studies have been performed recommending the upgrading and relocating of an existing fire station and
the addition of a new fire station to better provide fire protection by reducing response time for portions of~e City
where such response time is below the average in the City, and
Whereas, the Jeffersonville City Council desires to address the challenge of addltional fire protection and a more
balanced response time throughout the City for the present and immediate future needs of the City, and
Whereas, funding for these additional needs in the area of public safety are essential, and
Whereas, heretofore, no serious study oftbe funding needed to deliver these essential services has been undertaken,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JEFFEKSONVILE
THAT:
1. The Council supports an immediate seach begin for a new location to the North for Fire Station No. 2 be
undertaken for the purpose of reducing response time to portions of the City currently longer than the average
response time in the City.
2. Upon finding a suitable new location for Fire Station No. 2, tho process for constmctiun at the new location be
undertaken mediately.
3. In conjuction with the relocation of Fire Station No. 2 and in conjunction with potantalt annexations under study,
the Council supports the addition of Fire Station No. 4.
4. The Council begin the serious undertaking of developing a financial plan for funding its public safety needs for
present and immediate future including the relocation of Fire Station No. 2 and a new Fire Station No. 4.
