AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ~ 90.07
OF THE JEFFERSONVILLE MUNICIPAL CODE
CONCERNING HUMANE TREATMENT OF ANIMALS
WHEREAS, [90.07 of the Jeffersonville Municipal Code (the "Code") provides that
No owner shall fail to provide his animals with good and wholesome
food and water daily; proper shelter and protection from the weatlher;
veterinary care when needed to prevent suffering; and with humane
care and treatment; and

No animal shall be kept on a chain less than 12 feet in length. This
chain is to be kept untangled as to allow the animal full access of the
length of the chain; and

No person shah knowingly expose any know poisonous substance or
toxic chemical so that the same shall be liable to be eaten by any
animal, provided that it shall not be unlawful for a person to expose,
on his property, common rat poison 'mixed only with vegetable
substance; and

It shah be unlawful for any person, partnership, corporation or other
entity, to display, sell, offer for sale, trade, or barter, or knowingly
give away any diseased animal, or allow any diseased a~al that is
afflicted with a contagious disease to be exposed in any place of
public access. This is not meant to interfere with the daily operation
of an animal shelter or veterinary clinic; and
WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City of Jeffersonville wishes to support
legislation that will encourage the humane treatment of all animals; and
NOW THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY ORDAINED that ~90.07 of the Code is hereby
amended to read as follows:

It shah be unlawful for any person(s) to leave an animal in a motor vehicle when the
temperature in the vehicle is 100 degrees or more at which time the animal control
office is authorized to remove the animal from the vehicle and transport to the
animal shelter.
Penalty: A person violating the provisions of Article 90.07 shah be freed up to
$100.00 for each day the violation continues.
This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and approval.
IT IS HEREBY FURTHER ORDAINED ,that the Clerk and Treasurer of the City of
Jeffersonville must cause notice of the passage of this Ordinance to be published in the
Jeffersonville Evening News within thirty (30) days of its adoption.
