RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING APPLICATION SUBMISSION AND
LOCAL MATCH COMMITMENT
WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of Homel-and Security is making funds available to pay a
portion of the costs for additional firefighters through the 2005 Staffing for Adequate Fire-and
Emergency response (SAFER) Grant; and
WHEREAS, a need has been identified for a fourth fire station for the City of Jeffersonville to
serve its expanding population and annexed areas; and
WHEREAS, additional personnel will be needed to staff the new fire station;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of Jeffersonville,
Indiana that'
1. The Chief of the Jeffersonville Fire Department is authorized to submit an application for a
five (5) year grant to pay a portion of the costs for. hiring seven (7) additional firefighters, and to
execute and administer the resultant grant.
2. The Common Council of the City of Jeffersonville, Indiana hereby commits the requisite
local funds in the amount of $1,041,236 over a 5-year period, in the following annual
amounts' $48,664 in year 1 of the grant, or 90% of the cost in year 1; $112,252 in year 2
of the grant, or 80% of the cost in year 2; $217,994 in year 3 of the grant, or 50% of the
cost in year 3; $284,011 in year 4 of the grant, or 30% of the ~cost in year 4; and $378,315
3. in year 5 ~of the grant, or % 100 of the total cost for year 5.
