WHEREAS, it is the sense of the C~on Council thaC in the
event a catastrophe or disaster might suddenly occu~ within the
city some responsible person should have certain ~rgency powers
to do those things tha~ may be necessary in such an exigency,
and
WHEREAS, the proper and logical person to haVe such emergency
powers is the F~ayor o£ the city,
the City of Jeffersonville, Ir~diana, as follows:
SecZion 1.
That in the even2 this city should su£ier a disaster such
as tornado, snow storm, £1ood, riot or other similiar catastrophes,
~here is vested in the Mayor the power to issue and enforce such
decrees and to expend such £unds as ~y be necessary ~o operate
the city in order to pro~ec~ life, property and the welfare
of ~he citizens.
Section 2.
The emergency powers given and granted in Section 1 hereo~
shall become e£fective ~gely upon one (1) public announcement
made by the Mayor or his delegate in any of the news media, eithe~
neither newspaper, radio or ~eleVision.
