HomeMy WebLinkAbout1968-OR-13ORDINANCE NO. 68-0R-13 An Ordinance ~nending Ordinance No. 68-0R-~, the Housing Code of the City of Jeffersonville BE IT OROAINED BY THE COt4HON COUNCIL of the City of Jefferson- ville, Indiana, that the Housing Code of the City, the same being Ordinance No. 68-OR-h be amended in that Sectlon 8, Paragraph ~, Sub-paragraphs a, b, and c be deleted in its entirety and Section 8, Paragraphs I, 2, 3, and 5 be amended and changed to read as follows: -0- Ordinance shall be properly connected with both hot and cold water lines. 8.6 8.7 Every dwelling unit shall have adequate serviceable garbage and rubbish disposal facilities or covered garbage storage containers of not more than twenty gallon capacity vermin-proof, complete with lids. Ali trash containers shell be kept in an inconspicuous loca- tion, such as rear yar ds. Further, such containers shall be set out for trash collection only on days designated by the Sanitation Department. Every dwelling shall after the effective date of this Ordinance, have supplied water heating facilities which are properly connected with the hot water lines required under the provisions of Sub- Section 8.5 of this qrdlnance, and are capable of heetlng water to such a temperature as to permit an adequate amount of water to be drawn at every required kitchen sink, lavatory basin, bathtub or shower et a temperature of not less than 120° Fahrenheit. Every dwelling unit shall have safe unobstructed means of egress leading to safe and open space at ground level. All dwelllngs, fences, and outbuildings in a dilapidated or unsafe condition shall be removed or repaired. AIl sheds and auxiliary structures attached to dwelllngs which create blind rooms or which overcrowd the land shall be removed. All yard structures~ privies~ fences and rubbish which obstruct light and air, harbor rats and Vermin and create an undesirable environment shall be removed. 8.10 Automobiles, trucks and other vehicles of a similar nature, not in use shall not be stored in yards or on the premises in or about any dwelling, specifically junk autc~obiles shell not be deposited and kept in yards, either front, rear or side of any dwelling, or place of business unless a permit for such storage has been issued and the property has been zoned in a classification permitting such use. If e vehicle remains unused and unlicensed for a period of thirty days in any yard, it shall be prima facie evidence that such vehicle is an unused vehicle and in violation of 'Sub-Section a. hereof. ~ECTION 9. HINIHUH STANDARDS FOR LIGHT, VENTILATION AND HEATING After the effective date of this Ordinance, no person shall occupy as owner- occupant or let or sub-let to another for occupancy any dwelling, dwelling unit or rooming unit, for the purpose of living therein, which does not comply with the following requirements: Every habitable room shall have at least one window or skylight -10- with the following requirements: 8.1 Every dwelling unit shall after the effective date of this Ordinance, contain a kitchen sink and a flush water closet. The flush water closet shall be in a room which affords pri- vacy to a persen within such room, in good working condition and properly connected to a water and sewer system or septlc tank, except as otherwise provided upon the specific written recommendations of the Health Officer, in coordination with the Plumbing Inspector. 8.2 Every dwelling unit shall after the effective date of this Ordinance, contain a lavatory basin in good working conditl.en and properly connected 'to a water and sewer system or septic tank, except as otherwise provided upon the specific written recommendations of the Health Officer, in coordination with the Plumbing Inspector. Every dwelling unit shall after the effective date of this Ordinance, contain within a room which affords privacy to a person within said room a bathtub or shower in good working condition and properly connected to a water and sewer system or septic tank, except as othen~ise provided upon the specific written recommendation of the Health Officer~ in coordination with the Plumbing Inspector. Delete in its entirety all of paragraph 8.4 and sub-para- graphs a, b, and c. Every kitchen sink, lavatory basin and bathtub or shower required under the provisions of Sub-Section 8.1, 8.2, and 8.3 of this 8.3 8.5 OROINANCE NO. 68-0R-13 This Ordinance shall be in full fOrce and effect from and after its passage and approval.
