HomeMy WebLinkAbout08-17-98COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA AUGUST 17, 1998 The Common Council of the City ofleffersonville met in regular session in the Multi-Purpose Igleeting Room in the City-County Building, Jeffersonville, Indiana, at 7:00 P.M. on the 17th day of August, 1998. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Thomas R. Galligan, with Clerk and Treasurer C. Richard Spencer Jr. at the desk. Mayor Galligan welcomed all in attendance, asking all those present to stand as Councilperson Ellis asked all to join him in the Lord's Prayer. Mayor Galligan asked all those present to join him in the pledge of allegiance to the flag. The roll was called and those present were Councilpersons John Perkins, Ron Ellis, Donna M. Frantz, Barbara Wilson, Andrew Williams III, and Vicky Conlin. Absent: Councilperson Peggy Knight Wilder. Mayor Galligan presented the minutes of the meeting of August 3, 1998 for consideration by the Council. Councilperson Ellis made the motion to approve the minutes as presented, seconded by Council President Conlin and carried unanimously. Clerk and Treasurer Spencer presented the claim list for consideration by the Council, explaining two additional claims. Following all discussion, Councilperson Perkins made the motion to approve the claims as presented as well as one of the additional, tabling the claim for Rick VanGilder, seconded by Councilperson Wilson, passing unanimously. There was no public comment. Ordinance No. 98-OR-51, An Ordinance Of Additional Appropriation (Local Roads and Streets) was introduced as advertised for a public heating. Councilperson Perkins made the motion to suspend the rules for Ordinance No. 98-OR-51, seconded by Council President Conlin, passing unanimously. There being no public comment, Councilperson Perkins made the motion to pass Ordinance No. 98-OR-51 on all three readings, seconded by Council President Conlin passing unanimously. Councilperson Perkins made the motion to advertise the tax levy for 1999 at $9,855,061, seconded by Council President Conlin, passing unanimously. August 17, 1998 Page 2 of 2 Mr. Jim Stewart, Senior Vice Presidem of Operations, Insight Cablevision, appeared before the Council distributing Insight Cablevision information, Mr. Stewart then reviewed what has been done in the community, saying over seven million dollars has been invested in the system Mayor Galligan feels this technology is an advantage to Jeffersonvitle. Councilperson Perkins has concerns for the rates. He will talk with Mr. Stewart about rate structures. Mr. Smith and Mr. Lillie will attend the Council workshop at 5:30 P.M. prior to the 7:00 P.M. Council meeting on September 8. Councilperson Perkins asked if the Local Roads and Streets additional appropriation money would be used for paving. Mayor Galligan replied it was. Councilperson Perkins also is concerned about the problems in the 300 block of Pearl. The neighbors are concerned about an annoying problem. Councilperson Wilson said the JeffFamily Fest was very nice and enjoyable and there was good attendance. She is looking forward to next year. Councilperson Perkins reported on the bar-b- Que participants. Councilperson Frantz commented on the Connie Seller Park dedication held this past Saturday. She feels bad she did not attend, she did not receive the invitation in time. Mayor Galligan said the Connie Seller Park dedication was nice and there was a large crowd. Ms. Seller is very deserving. Mayor Gailigan distributed a letter he received from the EPA, containing roles for cities in metro areas for water quality and storm water. The City is going to have to have a plan as this will be a federal mandate. There being no further business to come before the Council, Councilperson Perkins made the motion to adjourn at 7:45 P.M., seconded by Counc~/~ident Co/~in,?/ ~fi,~n~mously.
