HomeMy WebLinkAbout1973-R-05Proposal - Submitted by Wo Fred Hale to the City Council of Jeffersonville The term of one of the Board Members of the Greater Clark School Corporation expires June 30, 1973. The method of appointment or reappointment of a member to the board for this vacancy is outlined in the by-laws of the Greater Clark School Corporation. It states in essence that, ~'The appointment is to be made by the Mayor of the Cit~of Jeffersonville with the approval of the City Council. In view of the fact that we have recently had such turmoil and controversy among the School Board it is vital that the best individual possible be selected to fill this vacancy. I would like to recommend for consideration the followin~ proposal: A. A Citizens Committee be established to seek, receive and evaluate applicationsfrom persons interested in this office. This Citizens Committee would be established by May 1, 1973 and wculd consist of the following members - one representative each from: 1. Clerk County Chamber of Commerce, Inc. 2. League of Women Voters of South Clark Co., Ind. 3. Jeffersonville Jaycees, Inc. 4. Student Council of Jeffersonville High School 5. Jeffersonville Social Concern Civic League The representatives selected should all reside within the boundaries of the City of Jeffersonville. They should have their first meeting on or before May 9, 1973. The purpose of the first meeting would be to organize and select a chairman.~ Cs e On or before June I, 1973 the Committee would submit to the Mayor of Jeffersonville an alphabetical list of al/ persons who have expressed an interest in being appointed to the School Board. Five of the names would be underlined which would indicate those five individuals that the committee felt had the highest qualifications and traits necessary to be a good School Board member. D. The May. or and the council would then take these recommendations into consideration before making the final decision on the appointment. Es It is understood that the recommendations of the committee are merely advisory; the Mayor retains the right , with the council's approval, to make the final decision. It is further understood that this Committee should be temporary in nature and formed for the sole purpose of assisting in seeking, ~eceiving and evaluating all applications from persons interested in the School Board appointment.
